
Recreation Specialist

There are two (2) positions available, one will be for Ezell Hester Community Center and one for Senior Center
The purpose of this classification is to plan, organize, develop, and supervise a variety of indoor and outdoor recreation activities and special events at recreation facilities and parks. Work is performed under general supervision.
Duties
Plans, develops, and implements recreation programs; orders equipment and supplies needed for recreation activities; plans and organizes department special events.
Recruits instructors and volunteers for recreation programs and special events.
Provides customer service support which includes answering phones; interacting with the public in person to answer questions about recreation programs, special events, and rentals; responding to emails.
Assists with promoting recreation programs and special events to increase registration and attendance.
Provides administrative support, including processing program registration and rentals.
Assists in the enforcement of recreation center rules and regulations to maintain order and prevent accidents.
Trains, schedules and supervises designated staff and volunteers to assist with recreation programs and facility rentals.
Supervises participants utilizing recreation centers; enforces recreation center and park rules and regulations to maintain order.
Participates in budget preparations and monitoring.
Maintains records and prepares reports on activities and programs conducted at recreation centers and parks.
Transports program participants to recreation activities.
Assists in evaluation of recreation programs and staff.
Additional Functions
Supports city-wide programs and special events.
Attends department trainings as needed.
Performs other related duties as required.
Minimum Qualifications
High school diploma or valid equivalent.
One (1) year of customer service, program planning and implementation experience in relation to recreation and parks.
Possess (or be able to obtain within fourteen (14) days of hire) and maintain a valid Florida driver’s license.
Possess (or be able to obtain within thirty (30) days of hire) a valid CPR/First Aid Certification and must maintain certification thereafter.
Positions working with Afterschool Youth Programs: Possession of Florida State Department of Health Forty‑hour Childcare Certification is preferred upon hire. Incumbents not in possession of the certification must register for the Certification within 90 days of employment, obtain the certification within six (6) months of hire, and maintain it thereafter.
Preferred Qualifications
Associate’s degree from an accredited college or university.
Certified Parks and Recreation Professional (CPRP) designation.
Possess and maintain a valid Florida Class B Commercial Driver's License (CDL).

Accurately and expeditiously receives and delivers messages and information to the appropriate individuals.

Follows oral and written instructions and completes assigned tasks with minimal supervision.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
Knowledge of principles, practices, and techniques of public recreation, including community recreation and cultural arts programs.
Knowledge of safety precautions applicable to the assigned area and effective precautionary measures.
Knowledge of departmental rules, regulations, policies, and procedures.
Knowledge of facilities and equipment used in indoor and outdoor recreation activities.
Ability to lead, instruct, and develop programs in recreation and cultural arts activities.
Ability to develop, coordinate, and direct various activities involved in a community recreation and cultural arts program.
Ability to use computer software and applications to create flyers, spreadsheets, and to collect fees.
Ability to perform general clerical responsibilities including copying, answering phones, preparing paperwork for activities, completing registration, and ordering supplies.
Ability to accurately perform First Aid and CPR/AED procedures.
Ability to establish and maintain effective, harmonious working relationships with supervisor, customers, vendors, employees, other departments, governmental and regulatory agencies, and the general public.
