Job Description Executive Director of Teaching and Learning - 240 Day Position

Job Goal:

This position is intended to assist the Chief Academic Officer by providing leadership and vision in the ongoing establishment of goals, planning, development coordination, implementation, and evaluation of curriculum, instructional programs, and professional learning in the District.

Qualifications

Appropriate certification (L-6 or higher) with Doctoral Degree in curriculum and instruction/educational administration preferred;

Thorough knowledge of concepts and principles of curriculum design and development;

Knowledge of rules and regulations pertaining to instructional programs;

Knowledge of school administration and public relations with strong oral and written communication skills and excellent interpersonal skills;

Ability to develop and motivate staff;

A minimum of eight (8) years experience in education, including at least three (3) years in an administrative capacity;

Such alternatives to the above qualifications as the Superintendent may find appropriate and acceptable.

Essential Duties

Pompt and regular attendance

Works closely with the Chief Academic Officer to support the overall functions of the Department.

Coordinates the development of instructional and professional learning programs for the District and assists in the formulation of philosophy and goals for the regular and special instructional programs.

Coordinates activities relating to the determination of what is taught in the District.

Coordinates activities relating to professional learning and development in the District.

Establishes procedures for implementing new instructional programs or changes in current instructional programs.

Works with staff to ensure vertical and horizontal continuity and articulation of the instructional program throughout the District.

Acts as liaison with elementary, middle, and high school administrators and supervisors to coordinate curriculum and professional development planning to provide a logical transition through the grades for all students.

Works with staff to coordinate meetings related to curriculum articulation and improving teacher and leader quality.

Supports the integration of technology and electronic tools in teaching and learning

Works with District staff to develop, oversee, and evaluate the effectiveness of a professional development program to improve learning for staff and administration

Maintains master files relating to the District’s curricular and professional learning programs including the scope and sequence of such programs.

Communicates the adopted curriculum and professional learning strategies and opportunities to professional staff and maintains a list of approved instructional and professional learning materials.

Provides guidance to, and works cooperatively with, staff members in the planning, administration, and evaluation of professional development activities.

Assists in the identification of faculty members to attend conferences and meetings planned for program development and professional growth.

Assists in the planning and implementation of programs designed to orient new members of the professional staff to the District’s curriculum and instructional programs.

Assist with grants as directed by the Chief Academic Officer.

Keeps informed of current research, trends, new materials, and methods in the fields of curriculum, instruction and professional learning. Shares information with staff and encourages the use of new materials and methodologies by professional staff.

Coordinates activities relating to the selection of appropriate instructional materials.

Stays apprised of governmental statutes, regulations, and rules relating to curriculum and instructional programs.

Represents the District at meetings of such organizations and groups outside the District inclusive of participation in the work of local, state, and national curriculum associations and study groups.

Ensures that Curriculum and Professional Learning Departments needs are met by accurate budget preparation and monitoring.

Performs other tasks and assumes other responsibilities as may be assigned by the Chief Academic Officer and/or Superintendent.

Physical Requirements Able to perform routine physical activities that are required to fulfill job responsibilities including:

Medium Work:

Exerting 50 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 20 pounds of force frequently and/or up to 10 pounds as needed to move objects.

Terms of Employment Salary shall be paid consistent on the System’s approved salary schedule. Length of work year and hours of employment shall be established by the system.

Evaluation Performance of this job will be evaluated by the Superintendent.
