
Employee Relations Manager

Salary Range: $85,000 – $105,000 annually
Hybrid – San Francisco, CA (3 days onsite / 2 days remote)
Position Summary
The Employee Relations & Compliance Manager plays a key role in fostering a positive, equitable, and compliant workplace. This position serves as the primary point of contact for employee relations matters, providing guidance, review, and resolution of workplace concerns in a timely, fair, and consistent manner. This role is also responsible for ensuring compliance with employment laws and internal policies, while maintaining strong oversight of HR systems (including UKG or comparable platforms) to support data accuracy, reporting, and operational efficiency. The position partners closely with leadership to support employee well-being, mitigate organizational risk, and promote a respectful, inclusive workplace culture. Essential Functions
Employee Relations & Workplace Support
Serve as the primary point of contact for employee relations matters, including sensitive and complex workplace concerns Conduct and manage employee relations reviews, ensuring timely, well-documented, and equitable outcomes Provide coaching and guidance to managers on performance management, conflict resolution, and corrective actions Meet with employees and managers to support conflict resolution and practical workplace solutions Promote a trauma-informed and culturally responsive approach to employee engagement Perform other duties as assigned Compliance & Risk Management
Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local employment laws Manage leaves of absence (FMLA, CFRA, PDL) and workers’ compensation processes Support internal and external audits and regulatory reviews Maintain and update HR policies and procedures Ensure accurate, consistent, and compliant documentation practices Perform other duties as assigned HRIS & Data Management
Serve as primary administrator for the HRIS, ensuring system integrity and data accuracy Manage employee data, workflows, and reporting Partner with Payroll and People teams to ensure accurate processing Generate and analyze people metrics to support reporting and decision-making Identify opportunities for system and process improvements Perform other duties as assigned Organizational Partnership
Partner with leadership to support employee experience, engagement, and retention Provide guidance on HR policies, procedures, and best practices Support onboarding and offboarding processes Collaborate cross-functionally with internal departments Participate in organizational initiatives and special projects Perform other duties as assigned Core Competencies
Strategic Communication & Alignment Analytical Thinking & HR Analytics Sound Judgment & Decision‑Making Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources or a related field required; advanced degree preferred 5+ years of HR experience with a focus on employee relations and compliance Demonstrated experience handling complex employee relations matters Experience managing leaves of absence and workers’ compensation Experience with HRIS platforms; UKG or similar preferred Strong knowledge of employment laws and HR best practices Excellent communication and interpersonal skills Preferred Qualifications
HR certification (SHRM-CP, PHR, or equivalent) Experience supporting regulated, nonprofit, healthcare, or behavioral health environments Benefits
