Impact:

Reporting to the Global Head of Ratings Strategy, the Senior Director of Strategy and Business Development will be responsible for leading strategy development, business development, and strategic alliances for the division. They will be responsible for leading key strategic initiatives, strategic advisory, and process improvement across the organization in close partnership with Commercial, Analytical, and Corporate Strategy.

Responsibilities:

Lead strategy development for the division, leveraging cross‑functional teams of subject matter experts.

In close partnership with S&P Global Ratings Strategy and SPGI strategy and corporate development leaders, work on strategic advisory projects focused on strategy development and execution, corporate development, and strategic partnerships (including market entry strategies, executive presentations, financial analysis, etc.) for the Ratings division and support execution of strategic investments.

Leverage scenario planning, case studies and modeling capabilities to strengthen the strategy.

Drive execution of top divisional strategies, working closely with Commercial and Analytical stakeholders. This involves moving strategic initiatives from concepts to actionable business concepts.

AI Strategy & Execution: Drive execution of SPGR’s longer‑term AI strategy in collaboration with key internal stakeholders.

Support acquisitions and partnerships which strengthen S&P Global Ratings’ market position, as well as expand our footprint in high priority geographic markets.

Develop and maintain financial analysis models to assist in investment evaluation and business case development, project prioritization and investment approval process.

Strategy Communication

Articulate the S&P Global Ratings strategy in a clear and compelling strategic narrative to key stakeholders, tailoring messages depending on executive audience.

Lead communication of SPGR strategy and updates to the board of directors and to the investor community.

Stay abreast of industry trends, competitive landscape, and emerging technologies. In partnership with Commercial, conduct market research and leverage internal customer insights and NPS data to identify new opportunities and enhance existing products.

Identify changes in market conditions, industry trends, regulatory environment, regional or country macro‑economic factors, etc. which may require changes to strategic plans.

Lead a team of strategy experts, and project‑specific cross‑function teams to deliver excellent strategy output. Be a role model, educator, coach, mentor across the wider organization.

Proactively engage with external stakeholders to source, evaluate, and develop new business opportunities for the division in close collaboration with Commercial stakeholders.

Compensation/Benefits Information: S&P Global states that the anticipated base salary range for this position is $174,420 to $305,205. Final base salary for this role will be based on the individual’s geographic location, as well as experience level, skill set, training, licenses and certifications.

In addition to base compensation, this role is eligible for an annual incentive plan.

What we are looking for: Basic Required Qualifications:

10+ years in financial services, management consulting (in the areas of strategic and business planning), or in corporate development/business development roles.

Bachelor’s degree: an advanced degree (Masters or MBA), preferred deep understanding of the credit ratings business, and debt capital markets / credit experience.

Strategy / management consulting experience.

Simultaneously managed multiple initiatives on strategy, corporate development, and new business development.

Experience leading strategic initiatives in a matrixed enterprise environment.

Strategy/Strategic Alliance teams (at a corporate level) and Product Development teams.

Experience leading through mergers and acquisitions.

Customer, investor and/or capital markets‑facing experience.

Demonstrated ability to influence and effectively connect stakeholders at all levels across a highly matrixed organization.

Demonstrated ability of executing initiatives including effectively prioritizing projects and meeting aggressive, recurring deadlines.

Advance knowledge of application of AI to financial services, emerging technologies, and experience developing technology strategies.

Additional Preferred Qualifications:

Exceptional strategic and analytical skills with ability to draw key insights and develop clear recommendations.

Attention to detail with ability to dive into new topics and quickly absorb and distil large amounts of complex/detailed information into a readily digestible work product.

Superior executive‑level presentation skills – able to distill complicated, multi‑faceted issues into the key items to bring to leadership’s attention.

Ability to work in an ambiguous, regulated, and highly matrixed environment.

Superior communication and stakeholder management skills, with the ability to effectively collaborate with diverse teams and influence decision‑making at all levels of the organization.

Demonstrated team leadership with a history of superior people management and development skills (helping people grow their skills / capabilities) with a focus on continual learning.

Curiosity and drive with an innovative mindset.
