Hesston USD 460 Activities Director
Position Overview:
The Activities Director is responsible for providing leadership, organization, and oversight of the school’s extracurricular programs, including athletics, clubs, and student activities. This position plays a key role in promoting a positive school culture, supporting student engagement, and ensuring that all programs operate efficiently and in alignment with school and district expectations.
This position offers some flexibility depending on the applicant's strengths, experience, and qualifications. Both licensed educators and qualified non‑licensed candidates are encouraged to apply, with responsibilities and structure tailored accordingly.
Key Responsibilities:
Provide overall leadership and coordination of athletic programs, activities, and student organizations
Support, supervise, and evaluate coaches and activity sponsors in collaboration with the building administration
Oversee scheduling of events, facilities, and transportation for activities and athletics
Ensure compliance with school, district, and league policies, as well as applicable Kansas State High School Activities Association regulations
Manage activity budgets, purchasing, and equipment inventory
Promote positive sportsmanship, student participation, and community engagement
Coordinate communication with students, families, staff, and community stakeholders
Assist with hiring and onboarding of coaches and sponsors
Serve in a rotation that oversees event management, including supervision, game operations, and crowd control
Collaborate with school administration to align activities with the overall mission and goals of the school
Programs Environment:
The Activities Director will join a school community with a strong tradition of success across multiple programs. The majority of coaches and sponsors are highly experienced, creating a supportive and collaborative environment. The position is supported by an experienced Activities Office Assistant who assists with organizational and operational tasks.
Qualifications:
Strong organizational, leadership, and communication skills
Ability to build positive relationships with students, staff, and the community
Experience in education, athletics, activities, or organizational leadership preferred
Licensure Flexibility:
Candidates without a teaching license may be considered for a full‑time Activities Director role focused on program leadership and operations that align with their professional background and expertise.
Administrative Status & Compensation:
This position will be considered a member of the district’s administrative team and will be compensated accordingly. Administrative licensure is not required for this role.
