Director of Community Engagement, Alpha - $200,000/year USD

Crossover, charlotte, nc, United States

What You Will Be Doing

  • Own the evolving relationship with every enrolled family—the sustained, deepening connection that ensures parents feel recognized, not merely attended to
  • Identify concerns before they surface as issues, and address them with the discretion and interpersonal skill that preserves trust
  • Maintain visible presence in the rhythms of family life: morning drop‑off (7–9am), afternoon pick‑up (2–4pm), evening parent gatherings, and select weekend programming
  • Develop a campus community with authentic depth—events, rituals, and moments that give families a sense of belonging to something worth safeguarding
  • Foster parent champions organically, delivering experiences of such consistent quality that referrals emerge as a natural byproduct
  • Sustain the ongoing dialogue about Alpha’s AI‑driven model with families managing screen time concerns, skeptical relatives, and periods of hesitation—not only during enrollment, but across their entire campus experience
  • Recognize when a family alignment isn’t right and manage that transition with the same thoughtfulness you bring to every interaction—protecting the community is integral to serving it
  • Design the structures and routines this role demands in a setting where the framework is still evolving

What You Won’t Be Doing

  • Overseeing enrollment—that falls to the Admissions Director; your responsibility begins when families commit and grows from that point forward
  • Operating from behind a desk—your visibility within the community defines the role
  • Adhering to standard 9–5 schedules—early mornings, late afternoons, and evening programming are intrinsic to the position, not occasional requirements
  • Relying on administrative infrastructure, established protocols, or a complete team—you function with significant autonomy and create what’s necessary
  • Approaching family relationships as transactional accounts—this role values authentic connection over procedural adherence

Director Of Community Engagement Key Responsibilities

Serve as the central trusted relationship within every family’s Alpha experience. Maintain their confidence through challenging moments, cultivate a community where belonging feels meaningful, and establish the conditions under which satisfied families naturally become active advocates.

Basic Requirements

  • Currently reside within commuting distance of one of these campuses or be willing to relocate within 60 days (preference for candidates with existing community roots): Scottsdale, AZ; Palo Alto, CA; Piedmont, CA; Lake Forest, CA; San Francisco, CA; Greenwich, CT; Bethesda, MD; New York City, NY; Austin, TX; Fort Worth, TX; Houston, TX; or Kirkland, WA
  • Legally authorized to work in the U.S. without sponsorship
  • 5+ years in a relationship‑focused role serving high‑net‑worth or ultra‑high‑net‑worth families—private school admissions, luxury hospitality, philanthropy, or any setting where discretion, warmth, and interpersonal skill were as critical as competence
  • Proven capacity to maintain relationships through challenging situations with sophisticated families and preserve trust throughout
  • Authentic presence and communication approach that builds confidence rapidly with affluent, high‑expectation families—not polished in a manner that feels artificial
  • Personal background with independent, private, or non‑traditional education—either professionally or as a parent—that provides genuine credibility when families challenge the model
  • Authentic commitment to AI‑powered education and the capacity to sustain that belief authentically throughout years of parent relationships, not solely during the enrollment phase
  • Availability for flexible hours: early mornings (7–9am), late afternoons (2–4pm), evening events 2–3x month, and occasional weekend activities

Nice‑to‑have Requirements

  • Established connections within the local affluent community that would provide immediate, organic credibility on campus
  • Private school or independent school background with demonstrated success in family retention and community building—not merely enrollment metrics
  • Background managing high‑stakes family dynamics where your discretion and judgment were the foundation of sustained trust
  • A natural ability for designing experiences—events, moments, settings—that make people feel part of something worth protecting
  • Prior startup or early‑stage organizational experience where you built from the ground up and maintained composure through rapid change
