Job Description

Director of Gifted & Talented and Advanced Placement

The Director of Gifted & Talented and Advanced Placement is a strategic leader responsible for the vision, implementation, and continuous improvement of high-level academic programming; ensures that students demonstrating high achievement capability in areas such as intellectual, creative, artistic, or leadership capacity, or in specific academic fields are identified early and provided with a seamless, rigorous pathway from K-12.

Responsibilities

  • Designing and implementing specialized curricula for GT students that emphasize critical thinking, inquiry-based learning, and creative problem-solving.
  • Developing and overseeing the testing and evaluation process to identify gifted students using multiple measures
  • Ensure all G&T programs meet state mandates and local board policies.
  • Provide consultative assistance to teachers with Gifted/Talented students.
  • Support principals with GT personnel
  • Maintain information on and liaison with other public and private agencies.
  • Analyze participation data to identify underrepresented groups and remove barriers to entry for advanced coursework.
  • Oversee the scheduling, ordering, and security of AP exams ( in coordination with school-based coordinators).
  • Lead professional development on differentiation, enrichment, accelerating learning, and the social-emotional needs of gifted learners.
  • Observe advanced academics classrooms to provide feedback on rigor and inquiry-based learning.
  • Allocating funds for testing materials, specialized classroom resources, and field experiences
  • Perform any other related duties as required or assigned.

Qualifications

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty mentioned satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required.

Education and Experience

A Master’s degree (Educational Leadership preferred) paired with five years of relevant experience and three years in an administrative leadership role. An equivalent combination of advanced education and professional experience will also be considered.

Reports to Assistant Superintendent of Teaching and Learning

215 Contract Days per year
