Indirect Tax Specialist

Job Summary Under the direction of the Global Tax Director, this position is responsible for helping Terumo BCT comply with U.S. and Canadian federal, state/provincial and local reporting requirements related to all aspects of transaction and property tax liabilities including Sales/Use, GST/PST, Property, Gross Receipts, Excise and Unclaimed Property.

Tax Returns

Prepare and/or review transaction tax (e.g., sales & use, business & occupation, gross receipts) and property tax returns for monthly, quarterly and annual filings.

Review capital expenditure and consumable invoices to determine taxability and ensure proper accruals are maintained.

Interpret and comply with federal, state, local, and international statutes, regulations and legislation relating to transaction taxes and property taxes.

Provide guidance based on research of transaction tax and property tax laws and regulations.

Review proposed and final settlement documents from tax authorities for accuracy and completeness.

Analyze and draft responses to correspondence and other enquiries received from state and local tax authorities.

Research and monitor tax laws for various states to ensure compliance within the company.

Develop and implement process improvements.

Maintain detailed supporting documentation for transaction tax and property tax returns filed on behalf of the company.

Audit and Business Support

Provide assistance to A/R, A/P, Contracts and IT departments to resolve customer issues on sales taxes.

Work with state auditors to provide requested information and audit defense for assessments; implement necessary changes identified during audits; review proposed assessments and recommend action to be taken.

Work with IT to develop best practice processes for providing data to support tax filings and audits for all entities.

Prepare for and assist with transaction tax and property tax audits.

Research transaction tax and property tax issues.

Contribute to special business projects as assigned.

Work with other tax team members to ensure departmental deadlines are met and objectives are achieved.

Data Management

Timely and accurate monthly, quarterly, and annual account reconciliations to ensure that balances are consistent with returns filed/payments made and any special issues.

Assist with reconciliation of transaction tax and property tax general ledger accounts.

Minimum Qualification Requirements

Education: Bachelor’s degree in accounting or other four‑year degree with equivalent accounting experience.

Experience: Minimum four years’ accounting and transaction tax experience; strong research and analytical skills for determining taxability in all states; knowledge of general accounting principles and audit support including P2P and RTR workflows; strong organizational skills and attention to detail; effective oral and written communication skills; experience with SAP, Vertex O‑Series, and PTMS a plus; ability to work independently in a deadline‑oriented environment; team player and customer focus attitude.

Certificates, Licenses, Registrations: CPA (Certified Public Accountant) is a plus.
