Instructional Designer I Department: Gas Skills Training NLbr Job Category: Human Resources / Training Location: Jackson, MI Schedule: Remote with occasional in‑person video shoots – hybrid in Jackson, MI Responsibilities
Design, develop, and maintain learning solutions that support operational, technical, safety, and customer‑focused training. Apply instructional design principles and adult learning theory to create engaging learning experiences. Partner with subject matter experts (SMEs) to analyze learning needs and translate complex utility concepts into clear, learner‑centered content. Design and develop training deliverables, including ILT/VILT, e‑learning modules, microlearning assets, and video‑based learning solutions. Create storyboards, scripts, and learning outlines aligned to performance objectives. Maintain and update existing learning materials to ensure accuracy, consistency, and relevance. Ensure learning solutions meet accessibility, usability, and quality standards. Lead video pre‑production activities: scripts, interview questions, shot lists, production plans and coordinate schedules, locations, and SMEs. Set up and conduct video shoots: camera, lighting, basic audio setup and coach on‑screen participants. Perform post‑production editing: sync audio and video, trim footage, add titles, lower thirds, callouts, simple animations, graphics, screen recordings, and motion elements. Optimize videos for delivery platforms (LMS, intranet, mobile, etc.). Follow brand, style, and quality standards for all video assets. Required Skills and Experience
2–4 years of experience in instructional design, learning development, or a related field. Hands‑on video production and editing experience. Working knowledge of instructional design models (e.g., ADDIE). Experience developing content for adult learners in a corporate or technical environment. Experience with video editing software (Adobe Premiere Pro, After Effects, Camtasia, or similar). Toolkit: Articulate Storyline/Rise, Adobe Creative Suite, and basic understanding of camera operation, lighting fundamentals, and audio recording best practices. Experience integrating video into Vimeo, e‑learning, or blended learning solutions. Portfolio or selection of work samples showcasing video examples, e‑learning, and other training‑based materials. Preferred Qualifications
Bachelor's degree in Instructional Design, Education, Learning Technologies, Communications or related discipline (equivalent experience considered). Advanced communicator with strong capability to influence high‑level stakeholder audiences. Proficient in Microsoft Office with heavy emphasis on PowerPoint. Graphic design, photography, videography knowledge and understanding (Adobe Creative Suite). Ghost writing for executives and creative storytelling proficiency. Benefits
