Amazon is seeking a self‑starter and results‑oriented individual to join the AWS Energy team within the AWS Infrastructure Services org. The role focuses on pioneering future data center utility power by developing and executing strategy to deliver energy projects and partner with electric utilities and energy companies primarily in the Pacific Northwest region of the US. The candidate will define the end‑to‑end strategy for generation, transmission, distribution, and backup power for scaling and operating AWS’s low‑cost energy supply. Responsibilities include managing multiple large‑scale power infrastructure projects, facilitating collaboration between internal and external stakeholders, and influencing cross‑functional partners to advance the overall data center capacity delivery business process.

Key job responsibilities

Lead the development and execution of a comprehensive utilities strategy for AWS data centers in the AMER regions.

Manage multiple utilities, EPC contractors, and owners’ engineers to deliver MV and HV power infrastructure, including negotiations and contracting.

Develop and execute energy strategies that leverage capital projects (grid connections, substations, energy storage, etc.) to reduce long‑term energy costs and manage capital budgets.

Collaborate with Amazon CFE/RE team to support the development of strategic energy sourcing opportunities.

Execute electricity supply contracts that create new clean energy capacity on the grid, reduce cost, minimize risk, and leverage opportunities that benefit Amazon.

Manage a portfolio of complex energy projects and collaborate with internal teams and regulated utilities on implementation and management.

Identify and develop innovative cost‑saving projects (capital and operational) and initiatives related to energy infrastructure and supply.

Complete due diligence on in‑market opportunities and develop them into cost savings for the business.

Work with utility regulators to develop policies and guidelines that enable broader AWS strategies and objectives.

Basic Qualifications

Bachelor’s Degree required in Engineering, Business, or another technical field.

10+ years of experience in the utility/energy industry in a commercial/business development or technical role.

3+ years of power transaction or contracting experience in energy markets.

Ability to manage multiple simultaneous projects requiring frequent communication, organization, time management, and problem‑solving skills.

Strong bias for action with the ability to anticipate challenges and deliver results for the business.

Preferred Qualifications

Master’s Degree (MBA) preferred.

Experience with planning, engineering, developing, or constructing substations or other 34.5kV or greater energy infrastructure.

Experience with evaluating and implementing innovative infrastructure and operational strategies within the energy sector (e.g., energy storage, demand response, fuel cells).

Experience working with public utility commissions and other energy regulators.

Experience with IT infrastructure, data centers, and cloud services.

Experience performing financial modeling and analysis of rates and energy costs, negotiating interconnection agreements, and related contracts with utilities and contractors.

Experience managing multiple million‑dollar power infrastructure contracts with external stakeholders.
