Duties and Responsibilities
Under the supervision of the Assistant Superintendent, the Director of Transportation will carry out the following duties:
- Provides assistance in planning, budgeting and forecasting for the Transportation Department
- Supervise all personnel of the transportation department.
- Ensure that the department implements all state laws and regulations regarding school transportation.
- File accident reports as necessary.
- Oversee all bus routes and assign regular and substitute drivers their routes.
- Prepare administrative reports, as well as reports for the school system and the GADOE officials, as required.
- Maintain records required by policy, regulation, law or best practice concerning transportation.
- Serve as CDL Training coordinator and conduct training and in-service programs for drivers.
- Recommend new transportation personnel to the superintendent for employment by the Lamar County Board of Education.
- Maintain and update current transportation policies for bus drivers.
- Ensure that all bus drivers have an annual physical examination prior to each school year.
- Ensure that all bus drivers maintain a valid CDL license.
- Prepare bids for new buses, fleet insurance, maintenance, parts, and supplies for the bus shop.
- Handle bus fleet insurance details regarding accident reports and records.
- Maintain time and attendance records of drivers and mechanics.
- Monitor county road conditions to trouble shoot for bad road conditions and make recommendations for needed repairs to the appropriate officials.
- Assist getting students to and from school, if feasible and reasonable.
- Act as safety coordinator of the school system with regards to bus safety.
- Perform other duties as assigned by the Deputy Superintendent.
Minimum Requirements
- Bachelor's Degree
- Experience in supervisory or leadership positions
- Possess a current CDL with proper endorsements for driving a school bus.
- Be able to stand, walk, bend, stoop, sit, climb and lift items of approximately 40 pounds throughout the workday.
Preferred Requirements:
- Knowledge and experience using routing and boundary plannins systems
- Experience with public school transportation programs.
Salary
- In accordance with the approved salary scale
- 230 Day Contract
