Duties and Responsibilities

Under the supervision of the Assistant Superintendent, the Director of Transportation will carry out the following duties:
  1. Provides assistance in planning, budgeting and forecasting for the Transportation Department
  2. Supervise all personnel of the transportation department.
  3. Ensure that the department implements all state laws and regulations regarding school transportation.
  4. File accident reports as necessary.
  5. Oversee all bus routes and assign regular and substitute drivers their routes.
  6. Prepare administrative reports, as well as reports for the school system and the GADOE officials, as required.
  7. Maintain records required by policy, regulation, law or best practice concerning transportation.
  8. Serve as CDL Training coordinator and conduct training and in-service programs for drivers.
  9. Recommend new transportation personnel to the superintendent for employment by the Lamar County Board of Education.
  10. Maintain and update current transportation policies for bus drivers.
  11. Ensure that all bus drivers have an annual physical examination prior to each school year.
  12. Ensure that all bus drivers maintain a valid CDL license.
  13. Prepare bids for new buses, fleet insurance, maintenance, parts, and supplies for the bus shop.
  14. Handle bus fleet insurance details regarding accident reports and records.
  15. Maintain time and attendance records of drivers and mechanics.
  16. Monitor county road conditions to trouble shoot for bad road conditions and make recommendations for needed repairs to the appropriate officials.
  17. Assist getting students to and from school, if feasible and reasonable.
  18. Act as safety coordinator of the school system with regards to bus safety.
  19. Perform other duties as assigned by the Deputy Superintendent.

Minimum Requirements
  • Bachelor's Degree
  • Experience in supervisory or leadership positions
  • Possess a current CDL with proper endorsements for driving a school bus.
  • Be able to stand, walk, bend, stoop, sit, climb and lift items of approximately 40 pounds throughout the workday.

Preferred Requirements:
  • Knowledge and experience using routing and boundary plannins systems
  • Experience with public school transportation programs.

Salary
  • In accordance with the approved salary scale
  • 230 Day Contract
