Job Description Normandy Schools Collaborative

is seeking a

Director of Athletics . The Director is responsible for the development, management, coordination, and supervision of a competitive athletics program. The role provides effective strategies, resources, and support to the High School Athletic Director, coaches, and student athletes, fostering a quality educational and athletic experience. The Director delivers visionary leadership, strategic planning, and policy development for K-12 athletics, administers the district athletic budget, ensures compliance with state association and conference policies, and participates in district and community fundraising events.

Job Summary:

To provide information, resources, training, and support for effective strategies and technologies that enhance the education of student‑athletes and the district’s athletic staff while overseeing all aspects of the athletic programs and facilities sponsored by the Normandy Schools Collaborative.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Work with schools to develop a district‑wide athletic program, ensuring uniformity and coordination and providing opportunities to all students.

Provide leadership enabling schools to develop athletic programs; establish annual athletic program goals and objectives.

Implement an annual evaluation of the athletic program; hire, train, and evaluate staff and coaches.

Assist in the evaluation and selection of athletic equipment.

Serve as a consultant within the district on all athletic construction projects and monitor the program for compliance with gender equity.

Demonstrate knowledge and understanding of athletic administration for K-12.

Coordinate the maintenance of athletic facilities and the purchase of athletic equipment.

Act as the district liaison for athletics to DESE, MSHSAA, and MIAAA; coordinate athletic training with community agencies; foster community relationships.

Coordinate physical examinations for all athletes with local agencies.

Assist schools in promoting interscholastic sports through brochures, press releases, and radio releases.

Maintain close working relationships with central office and school staff to ensure information exchange, coordination, and support for decision‑making.

Attend all local, district, regional, state, and national meetings necessary for the athletic program.

Promote professional growth and enrichment, encouraging athletic directors and coaches to join professional organizations and attend clinics, conferences, and compliance seminars.

Assist in developing and managing the district athletic budget.

Stay well‑informed about current trends and best practices in content, service, or project areas.

Seek assistance and support for financing the athletic program; support implementation of the district’s Strategic Plan; perform other duties as assigned.

Demonstrate strong interpersonal skills.

Commit to academic and athletic excellence; possess excellent planning, organization, and leadership skills.

Effective written and oral communication; ability to interact with all stakeholders, including local government.

Utilize appropriate strategies and problem‑solving tools for planning, fund utilization, service delivery, and evaluation.

Skilled in budgeting and allocating funds.

Operate office equipment such as computer, printer, calculator, and copier; proficiency with computer hardware and software for instructional and administrative functions.

Interact effectively with professional staff, parents, and students.

Education and Experience

Bachelor’s Degree (advanced degree required).

Administrative Certification required.

Significant experience in athletic administration or comparable managerial experience preferred.

Physical Demands The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. While performing the duties, the employee is regularly required to sit, talk, or hear; frequently walk and use fingers or tools; occasionally stand and reach with hands and arms; must have close, color, and depth vision. The employee may lift up to 50 lbs.

Local travel for office errands and visits to district buildings or sites may be required.

Work Environment The majority of working hours are spent in an office setting where noise levels are moderate with frequent interruptions. Light physical activity such as walking and standing is required daily. Occasionally, the employee may lift up to 25 lbs.
