General Definition of Work The High School Athletic Director is responsible for the overall management, coordination, and supervision of the school’s athletic programs. This position ensures that all athletic activities promote student development, sportsmanship, academic achievement, and compliance with district, state, and governing body regulations.
Job Description Purpose: Provides leadership, management, and oversight of the high school athletic program aligned to district goals, ensuring compliance, safety, and student success.

Place of Work The normal place of work is on the premises used by Rock Hill Schools. Rock Hill Schools reserves the right to require you to work at such other place(s) as it may reasonably require from time to time.
Core Responsibilities
Planning, Organization, and Communication
Develop and manage athletic budgets, schedules, and transportation.
Establish clear communication systems with coaches, students, parents, and media.
Coordinate athletic calendar and ensure alignment with school operations.
Lead regular coaches meetings and provide clear expectations.
Program Management
Maintain eligibility, records, and compliance with SCHSL regulations.
Oversee facilities, equipment inventory, and safety procedures.
Manage athletic budgets and financial reporting.
Supervise hiring, evaluation, and development of coaching staff.
Leadership
Promote a positive, inclusive, and high-performing athletic culture.
Build strong relationships with stakeholders and booster clubs.
Support academic achievement of student-athletes.
Judgment and Decision Making
Address conflicts effectively and enforce policies consistently.
Make timely, ethical decisions supporting student and program success.
Delegate responsibilities appropriately.
Professionalism
Uphold district values and professional standards.
Maintain accurate records and complete reports on time.
Engage in professional learning and organizations.
Certification and Experience
SC Certification in Secondary Education
Bachelor’s degree required; Master’s and Certified Athletic Administrator (CAA) preferred.
Experience in athletics, coaching, or administration.
Strong leadership, communication, and organizational skills.
Master’s degree & CAA preferred
Special Requirements
Receives and maintains a valid Driver’s License or ability to provide own transportation.
Travel to school district buildings and professional meetings.
Required to submit negative TB test results prior to beginning employment.
Physical Requirements
Ability to sit, stand, and walk for extended periods (generally a mix of sedentary and active work environments)
Ability to move throughout school campuses, athletic facilities, and event venues, including fields, courts, and stadiums
Ability to lift, carry, push, and/or pull equipment and materials up to approximately 25–50 pounds as needed for athletic events and operations
Ability to perform occasional physical activities such as bending, stooping, kneeling, crouching, climbing, and balancing
Manual dexterity sufficient to operate standard office equipment and technology systems (computers, communication devices, score/reporting systems)
Ability to respond quickly to emergencies, including providing supervision and coordination during athletic events and incidents
Working Conditions
Work is performed in a combination of indoor (office, school facilities) and outdoor environments (athletic fields, stadiums), including exposure to weather extremes such as heat, cold, and rain
Requires frequent attendance in the evening, weekend, and holiday athletic events; schedule includes prolonged and irregular hours
Fast-paced environment with frequent interruptions, competing priorities, and high visibility responsibilities
Regular interaction with students, staff, parents, community members, and external organizations, requiring strong interpersonal and communication skills
Potential exposure to bodily fluids, injuries, and emergency situations associated with athletic participation
Requires travel between school sites, athletic venues, and professional meetings
Work involves a high level of responsibility for student safety, program compliance, and public representation of the school and district
