
Automation Specialist

Education and Experience
High school diploma, GED, or equivalent experience required
Two years of community or technical college required
2-3 years experience programming PLCs using Ladder Logic, Function Block, or Structured Text and be familiar with various PLC brands such as Allen-Bradley, Siemens, Productivity, etc.
Required Skills
Ability to program HMI graphic interfaces employing situational awareness philosophy
Ability to understand automated equipment functions; chemical processes; and mechanical, hydraulic, and pneumatic systems
Possess a strong understanding of mechanical and electrical equipment and have the ability to use that understanding to troubleshoot systems
Knowledge of and ability to use Microsoft Office software, especially Word and Excel
Knowledge of and ability to use AutoCAD and other design software
Ability to follow written and verbal directions
Must be self-motivated and able to work with minimum supervision
Ability to maintain a clean work environment
Ability to maintain an effective, courteous, and tactful relationship with other employees and clients
Must be on time and have a good attitude at work
Willingness to assume other job duties as necessary to complete projects
Must be able to travel when needed, including international travel
Job Duties
Report to the Automation Manager
Respect and adhere to all active contracts and confidentiality agreements with Applied Chemical Technology and associated clients
Respect and adhere to all safety rules procedures, and complete all necessary safety training
Work with project managers to assess client needs related to automation
Assist project managers in preparation of project bids and cost estimation
Provide engineering input to projects as required
Design control panels/systems to meet project requirements
Generate AutoCAD drawings/schematics for control system design
Specify, purchase, and receive materials for control system fabrication
Provide written and verbal direction to panel shop personnel to ensure efficient completion of projects
Report project status to project managers as necessary
Work with project managers and accounting personnel to accurately document project costs
Perform other functions in the Automation Department as requested by the Automation Manager or higher management
Physical Demands
Coordinate the use of both hands to perform tasks
Lifting and handling of boxes and sales equipment of up to 50 lbs
Reaching overhead, stooping, kneeling, walking, talking, hearing, reading and seeing
Hours: 8-5 Monday-Friday; must be able to work on short notice and work extra hours, including weekends, if needed
