Job Description POSITION

Superintendent
TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT:
240 Days. Salary determined by schedule set by the Board.
EVALUATION:
Evaluated annually by the Superintendent.
GENERAL
DESCRIPTION
The purpose of this classification is to implement the District’s communication strategies and work toward improving its public image, and work with the Superintendent, Board of Trustees, staff and community to improve internal and external lines of communication. Responsible for planning and managing public relations events, organizing press releases, and serving as liaison between the School District and the media.
EDUCATION
Completion of Bachelor’s degree. Master’s degree preferred.
EXPERIENCE
5 years.

ESSENTIAL
DUTIES
Essential job duties are intended to be examples of duties and are not intended to be all inclusive. There will be other duties assigned.
Serve as liaison between the District and the media, and arrange news media coverage at District functions.
Establish and maintain relationships within the community and cultivate relationships with elected officials, community leaders, and business leaders that support the District and its mission.
Organize and distribute press releases regarding Board actions, and school and District programs and events.
Speak to community groups and organizations, and schedule additional personnel for speaking engagements, and serve as spokesperson for the District in the absence of the Superintendent.
Provide communications and community relations counsel to the Superintendent, Board of Trustees, administrators and other District personnel.
Prepare and assist to compile information, write and edit materials for district-wide publications including annual reports, brochures, handbooks, and letters of correspondence.
Coordinate various public relations and recognition programs for employees and students.
Serve on the Superintendent’s senior staff, attend board meetings, and work with the Superintendent to communicate District programs and topics of current interest to the community.
Develop and implement communication management plans, addressing major District initiatives.
Oversee annual advertising campaigns and marketing initiatives for both internal and external audience.
Build and maintain relationships with local, regional, and national media.
Coordinate with the Board of Education, Superintendent, and department heads on communication strategies.
Respond to Freedom of Information requests as required.
Supervises Communications Specialist.
ADDITIONAL
DUTIES
Manage the community relations budget, materials and equipment; create yearly packets for back to school; create the annual report; help create Board agendas; assist Board members when needed; participate in professional organizations and professional development activities as appropriate; perform other duties as assigned by the Superintendent.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES
Abilities and skills for public speaking; good organizational, and planning skills and abilities; skills in technology and website design and maintenance; ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing; good management and leadership skills; good interpersonal skills; knowledge of district policies and procedures; knowledge and ability to operate basic office equipment.
TOOLS & EQUIPMENT USAGE
Use computers for data entry; or handle, use, or repair hand-held power equipment or light machinery; use computers for word processing, spreadsheets, PowerPoint presentations or custom applications or operate or repair large shop equipment and machines or operate or repair vehicles or use firearms.
