Salary Range: $78,800 - $124,800

What your job will be like:
Design components or portions of systems and modify existing designs to develop or improve products and facilitate manufacturing operations. Utilize computer-aided design equipment and/or graphic tools. Gather information, make studies, compute calculations, and prepare original rough layouts, sketches to present design proposal. Coordinate design criteria with engineering, physics, accelerator, and other relevant groups as appropriate. Lead the design effort for experimental Hall B.

In this job you will:

Geometric Dimensioning & Tolerancing and tolerance stack-up analysis per ASME standards.

Work directly with engineers and other designers as a team member.

Be self‑motivated and have a proven track record of generating complex designs.

Turn concepts and ideas into working assemblies and systems with independent thinking.

Support activities that communicate drawing requirements and resolve drawing issues with other functional departments.

Develop models and drawings to show the equipment used for each experiment.

Integrate new detectors into the existing space in the Hall, so they will function with the other detectors.

Use layout sketches to design components to fit into the space allotted.

Use constraints in assemblies to maintain the correct relationship between parts.

Track projects from conceptual designs through fabrication and installation in the Hall.

Produce accurate, simple and cost‑effective fabrication documentation (3D modeling, assembly and orthogonal drawings) using NX/Teamcenter and AutoCAD.

Ability to read and understand blueprint drawings, component specifications, and technical data sheets.

Reports to project engineers or project leads.

Convert concepts and ideas into working assemblies and systems with independent thinking.

Responsible for overall quality and schedule of their own work and those under their lead.

Completes highly complex tasks.

Normally responsible for the planning and completion of multiple tasks simultaneously.

Lead - Supervisory - Management

Coordinate multiple tasks/projects or a team.

May lead others to complete projects and meet schedules. Frequently requires decision making to establish or modify guidelines.

Experience

Required: 12 or more years Relevant experience And

Required: Practical experience producing mechanical designs and fabrication drawings. Experience generating complex designs such as magnets, structures, testing equipment, mechanisms, machine components, vacuum equipment and electro‑mechanical devices.

Preferred: Experience in machining and/or metal fabrication.

Education

Required: High School Diploma

Preferred: Associate's Degree

High level skills, knowledge and ability in one technology trade or specialty.

Significant latitude in prioritizing and choosing work methods.

Extensive knowledge of 2D and 3D CAD software and data management systems.

Able to effectively communicate with a variety of disciplines both verbally and in writing.
