
Civil Designer

Position Summary
We are seeking a full‑time Civil Designer to join our team. This salary range for this position is $100,000 – $125,000, depending on experience. The ideal candidate will have strong expertise in grading design, with specific experience in single‑family detached home subdivisions (both front‑ and alley‑loaded product types) and in designing and producing complete single‑family subdivision plan sets, including preliminary plats, roadway plans and profiles, closed and open stormwater conveyance systems, sanitary sewer systems, sediment and erosion control, water distribution utility plans, stormwater management design, and standard construction details.
Additionally, the designer will conduct municipal research and summarize development requirements for senior leadership across the markets where Southern Land Company operates.
Role and Responsibilities
Design plans utilizing AutoCAD Civil 3D or similar software.
Prepare grading plans through the creation of accurate vertical surfaces or digital terrains following all municipal roadway design requirements and in‑house lot‑grading standards.
Lead the production of subdivision plan sets for review by senior team members.
Prepare permit applications for municipal agencies in which projects are designed and make timely submittals of the plans for review and comment.
Assist with the review of outside consultant plans for existing or future outsourced projects.
Work closely with other Southern Land design and construction professionals to achieve overall project goals for the company.
Education and Experience Requirements
Bachelor’s degree in engineering from an accredited ABET/ETAC program or a bachelor’s degree in landscape architecture (with a preference for the more technical aspects of the degree).
3 to 6 years of experience in site design for single‑family residential development.
General understanding of regulatory requirements and permitting processes with the ability to research specific requirements and processes as needed for projects.
Strong verbal and written communication skills.
Proficient in Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook.
Ability to prioritize work and ask for assistance and clarification when necessary.
Ability to deal with frequent interruptions, unresolved situations, frequent changes, delays, or unexpected events.
Maintain a professional appearance and presentation.
Ability to keep sensitive information highly confidential.
