
Director of Family Ministries (PT)
North Georgia Conference of the United Methodist Church, Des Moines, IA, United States
The Part-Time Family Ministry Director provides spiritual leadership, program development, and relational ministry for children of all ages and their families. This role focuses on nurturing faith formation in the home and church, fostering meaningful connections, and supporting families in their discipleship within the framework of the United Methodist tradition.
Primary Responsibilities Faith Formation & Programming
Plan, coordinate, and lead age-appropriate faith formation opportunities for children nursery–7th grade (work together with youth director)
Develop intergenerational programs that engage families in worship, learning, and service
Select and/or create curriculum consistent with United Methodist theology
Coordinate and support Sunday School and small group ministries
Relational Ministry
Build relationships with children, youth, and families through regular communication and presence
Provide pastoral support and care to families in times of need (in coordination with pastoral staff)
Create a welcoming and inclusive environment for all families
Recruit, train, and support volunteers for children’s and youth ministries
Ensure compliance with Safe Sanctuaries policies and best practices
Encourage leadership development among youth and adult volunteers
Worship & Church Integration
Collaborate with pastoral staff to incorporate children into worship
Plan and lead special services (e.g., Children’s Sabbath, Youth Sunday)
Encourage family participation in the broader life of the church
Events & Outreach
Coordinate seasonal events (e.g., Vacation Bible School, retreats, mission opportunities)
Engage with community families and create pathways for connection to the church
Partner with local schools and community organizations when appropriate
Qualifications
A growing and active Christian faith, with a commitment to the mission of the United Methodist Church
Experience working with children, youth, and/or families (church or related setting)
Strong relational, organizational, and communication skills
Ability to work collaboratively with staff and volunteers
Bachelor’s degree preferred (theological education or progress toward it is a plus)
Core Competencies
Passion for family-centered ministry and faith development
Creativity and initiative in program planning
Emotional intelligence and pastoral sensitivity
Ability to balance structure with flexibility in a part-time role
Work Schedule
Sunday morning and 1-2 weekday on campus attendance required
Additional hours for special events (seasonal flexibility expected)
Compensation
Salary commensurate with experience and hours
Continuing education and professional development support (if applicable)
