Job Description The Underwriter evaluates and determines the eligibility of loan applications which includes analyzing and verifying documentation within the application, evaluating risk, and making loan eligibility decisions.
A successful Underwriter should be able to exercise sound judgement based on detailed analysis and ensure that all documentation is in compliance with relevant regulations/guidelines.
The Underwriter reports to the Underwriting Manager. The Underwriter will work closely with loan processors and/or loan originator in providing guidance on what documents a necessary to complete the loan review.
Responsibilities
Review and verify loan application and supporting documents to investor/agency guidelines.
Make credit decisions (approved, suspended or denied), clear conditions, review, and complete change requests.
Analyzing risk and requesting additional information, as necessary Review and calculate income.
Review appraisals to ensure investor / agency acceptability. Maintain knowledge of underwriting guidelines and loan programs. Complete assigned loan reviews within required timeframe.
Complete computer data entry as needed in Loan operating system. Complete Underwriting Certifications, as necessary
Documenting and effectively communicating reasons for approval, suspense and/or denied loans.
Perform other related duties and assignments as required .
Incumbent will be responsible for meeting RoundPoint’s commitment to quality.
Qualifications Required:
High School diploma or equivalent required
Minimum of four years’ recent experience underwriting new originations.
Strong interpretive reasoning and problem-solving ability and excellent analytical skills
Excellent interpersonal, oral, and written communication skills.
Excellent organizational skills
Self-disciplined, self-motivated, and self-reliant.
Proficiency in Microsoft Office and the ability to learn and work with various Mortgage applications and software.
Ability to relate and communicate in a professional manner with all levels of management as well as internal and external contacts.
Ability to prioritize and perform constantly changing multiple tasks in a very fast paced environment.
FHA certification preferred
Experience with Encompass preferred.
