
Underwriter

The Underwriter evaluates and determines the eligibility of loan applications which includes analyzing and verifying documentation within the application, evaluating risk, and making loan eligibility decisions.
A successful Underwriter should be able to exercise sound judgement based on detailed analysis and ensure that all documentation is in compliance with relevant regulations and guidelines.
The Underwriter reports to the Underwriting Manager. The Underwriter will work closely with loan processors and/or loan originators in providing guidance on what documents are necessary to complete the loan review.
Responsibilities
Review and verify loan application and supporting documents to investor/agency guidelines.
Make credit decisions (approved, suspended or denied), clear conditions, review, and complete change requests.
Analyze risk and request additional information as necessary; review and calculate income.
Review appraisals to ensure investor/agency acceptability, maintain knowledge of underwriting guidelines and loan programs, and complete assigned loan reviews within required timeframe.
Complete computer data entry as needed in the loan operating system and complete underwriting certifications as required.
Document and effectively communicate reasons for approval, suspense, and/or denial.
Perform other related duties and assignments as required.
Incumbent will be responsible for meeting RoundPoint’s commitment to quality.
Qualifications Required
High School diploma or equivalent.
Minimum of four years’ recent experience underwriting new originations.
Strong interpretive reasoning, problem‑solving ability, and excellent analytical skills.
Excellent interpersonal, oral, and written communication skills.
Excellent organizational skills.
Self‑disciplined, self‑motivated, and self‑reliant.
Proficiency in Microsoft Office and ability to learn and work with various mortgage applications and software.
Ability to relate and communicate professionally with all levels of management and internal/external contacts.
Ability to prioritize and perform constantly changing multiple tasks in a fast‑paced environment.
Desired
College degree preferred.
FHA certification preferred.
Experience with Encompass preferred.
Physical Demands & Working Conditions
The employee is regularly required to talk or hear.
The employee must sit for extended periods and is occasionally required to stand and walk.
The employee must regularly use hands to finger, handle, or feel objects and is regularly required to reach with hands and arms; occasional climbing or balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, or crawling may be required.
The employee must frequently lift and/or move up to 10 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds.
Specific vision abilities required include close vision, distance vision, color vision, and ability to adjust focus.
The noise level in the work environment is usually quiet to moderate, and no extreme conditions are present.
