Responsibilities and Job Duties
Ensures compliance with Section 504, IDEA, and special education programs and services within district, state, and federal guidelines. Provides instructional leadership, intervention strategies, and curricula recommendations to ensure the achievement of high standards and accountability in the implementation of district goals and programs. Responsible for mental health and all other therapeutic services within the school district. Engages with the District Administrative Team to guide implementation of an aligned K‑12 system – supporting student learning and professional development with administrators, teachers, and support staff. Serves as advisor to building administrators and staff regarding special education processes and/or procedural questions. Provides leadership and support in the recruitment, screening, hiring, and evaluation of special education personnel and nursing staff in collaboration with building principals and staff. Develops, directs, and coordinates a program of professional development activities for personnel. Maintains effective, positive communication with parents, guardians, patrons, students, and staff. Ensures effective evaluation and systemic review of instructional and operational programs by overseeing the assessment of student growth and progress on IEPs. Develops, manages, and monitors special services budgets, contracts, and staffing for all special services programs. Responds to questions or concerns from parents, guardians, and students in a sensitive and timely manner. Compiles, analyzes, interprets, and summarizes data and reports that can be shared with staff, colleagues, and the community. Updates policies and procedures on file with the Oregon Department of Education; updates district procedural manuals. Keeps records, reports, and ledgers to comply with assurances and audit requirements. Coordinates activities related to periodic Oregon Department of Education monitoring of special education and federal programs and services. Participates in regional and state Special Education Director meetings. Attends school, community, and district meetings, events, and activities. Qualifications – Skills and Knowledge

Performs duties in a courteous and efficient manner that builds confidence of staff, students, and the public. Establishes and maintains effective working relationships with school personnel, parents/guardians, students, and the public – working collaboratively as a team member. Maintains regular attendance at work and work activities and is punctual in meeting deadlines, attending meetings, and following a schedule. Carries out work responsibilities effectively and with strong organizational skills under pressure of deadlines, difficult situations, interruptions, and new or emergent conditions. Respects confidential information and the privacy of students, staff, and parents or guardians. Develops job skills necessary to meet the changes and demands of the position and profession. Writes and speaks clearly and concisely to a variety of audiences. Values and promotes diverse perspectives, skills, and approaches among colleagues, staff, students, parents or guardians, and the community. Confident and competent in technology and instructional applications Leadership or Director experience Medicaid billing and reimbursement experience preferred Teaching experience preferred Qualifications:
Valid Oregon Administrative License. Experience with Special Education Programs. Minimum of five years of experience in public education, including teaching or supervision in special education or related service fields. Salary and Benefits:
This is a full-time (1.0 FTE), approximately 235-day position, including 9 paid holidays. Placement on the La Grande School District Administrative salary schedule, range 7, step 1‑9 $127,623.00 – $152,487.94. La Grande School District will support payment for health, dental and vision insurance premiums. Employer-paid PERS is provided to qualified employees.
