Director of Institutional Research

Job Duties

Queries, retrieves, summarizes, and analyzes data from databases to include the Ellucian Colleague system, the NCCCS Data Warehouse, and other data sources in support of recurring and special requirements of the institution.

Designs and conducts recurring and ad-hoc research projects using qualitative, quantitative, and mixed methods approaches in support of institutional needs.

Creates and maintains data dashboards using data visualization software.

Collects and maintains general demographic, economic, and other environmental data required in institutional decision making, planning, and other College activities.

Analyzes, summarizes, and packages data as management information.

Ensures integrity and accuracy of data reported internally and externally.

Assists staff and faculty in the design, conduct, and analysis phases of research.

Maintains appropriate data at the institutional level.

Develops and maintain an institutional data management plan to include methods for communicating information to the appropriate users.

Advises the Vice President of Student Services in establishing and publishing appropriate research protocols.

Maintains proficiency in required software and hardware.

Identifies and recommends needed software to the Vice President of Student Services.

Serves as the College’s IPEDS keyholder and be responsible for the accurate and timely submission of IPEDS data.

Serves as a data coordinator for NCCCS, governing college users access to System Office data and reports and ensuring that colleges comply with requirements of the Annual Reporting Plan.

Assists with the College’s customer relationship management (CRM) software.

Other duties. (Willingness to accept and fulfill additional assignments.)

Job Qualifications

Understanding of the mission of community colleges required.

The successful candidate must possess strong interpersonal and organizational skills, the ability to perform to standards within fixed deadlines, and manage multiple tasks simultaneously.

Understanding of dashboards and data management.

Must be self-directed and sustain high levels of customer service.

Must possess strong written and oral communications as well as effective presentation skills.

Minimum Education and Experience

Bachelor’s degree required, master’s degree preferred. Degree must be in a relevant field (extensive experience in statistical analysis, data management or institutional research with less relevant degrees may be considered).

Work experience in a higher education setting preferred.

Demonstrable experience in data mining, research, and analysis required.

Experience with relational databases and Microsoft Office applications required.

Experience with Colleague, SQL, SPSS, SAS, or similar applications preferred.
