Summary + Overview This is a temporary, full-time (30+ hours a week), entry-level, opportunity to jumpstart your career and gain hands‑on experience in the Active Transportation world. With an internship at Alta, you’ll be exposed to a variety of projects, learn about consulting, and collaborate across disciplines and geographies with passionate engineers, landscape architects, urban planners, graphic designers, and civic data analysts. You’ll be able to have an impact on communities and how people get around.
The internship program is more than just a job - we want you to focus on learning about our world, everything from proposals to project retrospectives. We aim to prepare you for your career in sustainable transportation, even if it’s not at Alta; the world needs more passionate people making real‑world changes, and we’re here to help you take that next step.
When you join our program, you’ll:
Be paired with a supervisor who will provide mentorship and hands‑on training in your area of study.
Meet with other interns regularly to discuss the program.
Help produce deliverables on some of Alta’s ongoing and most exciting projects.
Position Priorities Our teams reflect a rich variety of educational and professional backgrounds, including transportation, public policy, urban planning, marketing, communications, sustainability, public health, engineering, environmental studies, public relations, journalism, media, and social psychology. A passion for sustainable transportation is the through‑line that connects us all with our colleagues, clients, and the communities we serve. While a general understanding of transportation planning, marketing, or community engagement will be especially useful, the essential priorities of this position are to:
Gain functional knowledge and skills that pertain to sustainable transportation.
Learn about the world of consulting.
Contribute to the production of project deliverables.
Participate in ongoing research and development efforts.
Responsibilities + Tasks Responsibilities of this position may include, but are not limited to:
Support sustainable transportation campaigns (promotion, fulfillment, communications, tracking, troubleshooting).
Assist with the development of new marketing assets: draft creative briefs, submit requests, coordinate with graphic design team, consolidate feedback, track schedules.
Create written content for a variety of communications platforms (blog, newsletter, web, socials, email) and coordinate with design team for graphic content needs.
Maintain project and campaign performance tracking tools (editorial calendar, materials, metrics).
Support staffing in‑person outreach events.
Requirements We seek individuals who have background or interest in any field of study related to sustainable transportation, including students currently enrolled in a bachelor’s (junior year or above), master’s programs, or recent graduates. This may include transportation, public policy, urban planning, marketing, communications, sustainability, public health, engineering, environmental studies, public relations, journalism, media, and social psychology.

Strong initiative, curiosity, and a can‑do mindset.
Ability to work in an environment of competing priorities and multiple simultaneous projects.
Strong interpersonal, written and verbal communication skills.
Accuracy, attention to detail and strong organizational skills.
Ability to learn new technical skills and problem solve.
General understanding of MS Excel, Word, Adobe, Creative Suite, G‑Suite.
Compensation The pay range for this job in Seattle is $24/HR for students in Undergrad, and $26/HR for students in Graduate programs.
