Customer Service Representative

Purpose of Position
The Customer Service Representative is responsible for collecting payments from customers, balancing the cash drawer daily, taking requests for utility services, answering telephones and assisting customers. The role is highly visible and requires serving customers in a friendly, courteous manner while maintaining positive relationships with colleagues.

Responsibilities

Receive and process payments from customers over the counter, in night depository, and through the mail, ensuring proper accounts receive credit, including electric, water, sewer, sanitation bills, security deposits, and various service fees.

Receive and process all requests for service connections and disconnections for electric, water, sewer, and sanitation, ensuring all necessary information is accurately typed into the computer and dispatched or printed as a service order for the serviceman.

Match completed service orders to appropriate applications and review for accuracy.

Answer telephones and assist customers in a friendly, courteous manner, taking accurate messages.

Communicate with other customer service personnel and servicemen regarding payments and orders to aid in delinquent list management and connection requests.

Perform other related duties as assigned.

Supervision
Under the immediate supervision of the Business Manager. No supervisory authority is exercised by this position.

Physical Demands

Requires eyesight corrected to 20/20; color vision required.

Must be able to lift or move items up to 50 pounds.

Required to stoop, bend, reach, lift, or kneel in limited space.

Manual dexterity and close, distance, color, peripheral, and depth vision required.

Hearing requirements: no more than 20 dB loss from 500–2,000 MHz, no more than 30 dB loss from 2,000–3,000 MHz, and no more than 40 dB loss from 3,000–3,500 MHz.

Must successfully pass an extensive medical and psychological examination.

Requirements

High school diploma or equivalent.

Good communication skills, friendly and courteous demeanor.

Ability to maintain accurate records and perform data entry.

Ability to work full-time, permanent, in a regular office environment year-round.

Ability to work occasional overtime and night work; no shift work or on-call duties.

Ability to handle moderate to high stress, especially during certain periods of the year.

Selection Guidelines
Formal application, rating of education and experience, oral interview, background investigation, and job-related tests may be required.
