Job Purpose
The Golf Shop Merchandiser is responsible for sourcing, procuring, displaying, and managing the Golf ProShop merchandise inventory. This position is critical for delivering a hospitality-focused retail experience that aligns with the Club’s brand and enhances the member experience.
Job Summary (Essential Functions)
Provide a warm, personalized experience for members and guests, fostering a ProShop atmosphere that is inviting, attentive, and reflective of the club’s hospitality standards
Maintain understanding of member preferences, develop merchandising plan in alignment with club priorities
Source and procure merchandise that aligns with member preferences, seasonal trends, and club standards; anticipating member needs
Build and maintain strong vendor relationships; negotiate pricing and terms
Manage and maintain appropriate levels of stock, receiving and processing new merchandise, conducting regular inventory counts, and managing storage areas
Design and maintain compelling and organized displays, periodically updating shop layout and implementing seasonal and promotional displays
Receive and price inventory using Jonas POS software, process sales transactions; manage special orders in GolfGenius to ensure timely communication and delivery, manage price changes, etc.
Maintain cleanliness and organization in all retail and storage areas
Support club events, tournaments, and promotions with targeted merchandise offerings
Collaborate with ProShop staff to establish and maintain shared understanding of merchandising standards and product information
Coordinate with Finance for invoice processing, inventory controls, sales forecasting, and cost controls
Process invoices and credits to appropriate general ledger accounts through Beanworks accounts payable platform
Perform month‑end account reconciliations, collaborating with Finance to resolve any discrepancies
Track and analyze sales data to inform merchandising decisions, adjusting product mix based on demand, seasonality, and member feedback
Regularly track retail price adjustments from vendors, process credits net‑downs are issued and adjust price on applicable items in the Golf Shop
Continuously seek opportunities to elevate the retail experience
Qualifications
Education
High school diploma or equivalent required
Post‑secondary education in business‑focused sports management preferred but not required
Licensure/Certifications
Association of Golf Merchandisers Certified Retail Manager credential preferred but not required
Experience
3-5 years of retail experience in relevant sports or fashion merchandising role(s) required
Experience conducting sales via POS terminal/system (e.g. Jonas) required
Experience in private Golf & Country Club industry strongly preferred
Skills
Strong customer service and interpersonal skills
Intermediate or higher understanding of the game of golf, golf etiquette
Knowledge of golf brands, equipment, and apparel trends
Creative eye for product presentation and visual merchandising
Organized and detail oriented with administrative capability
Strong written and spoken communication skills, ability to communicate professionally and hospitably with members via phone, email, and in-person
Self‑initiating, solutions oriented
Physical Requirements and Work Environment
Must be able to lift and carry 50 lbs, as well as stand for extended periods of time. Frequent standing, walking, lifting, bending, stooping, squatting. Ability to work in varying weather conditions (heat, cold, precipitation, etc.) in varying settings (indoor, outdoor).
Work Schedule and Hours
Full‑Time (~40+ hours/week) Hourly. Ability to work flexible hours, including some weekend and holiday availability required.
