Prenatal Education Coordinator

Job Summary
This position provides the necessary oversight, guidance, education and skills to onboard new clinical nursing staff and manage ongoing competency and professional development of nurses. Utilizing knowledge of the educational process, the coordinator assures that quality education based on adult learning principles is developed and implemented. The coordinator provides leadership in the orientation of new employees, assists with preceptor development, and utilizes appropriate teaching strategies in the classroom setting, documenting all required information. Orients all new residents to responsibilities related to education of patients on breastfeeding and maintenance of Baby Friendly status, and collaborates with Staff Development to orient hospital staff to new educational information related to antepartum or prenatal education.

Collaborates with unit team members on problem solving for educational programs, shares policy and practice, assists management in enforcing practice policy and procedure changes, and serves as a consultant to other hospital departments in developing and presenting educational programs. Participates in creating effective strategies to achieve new nurse compliance with regulatory standards and assists in developing, implementing, and evaluating goals of the work unit. Works with colleagues to plan educational programming consistent with evidence‑based practice and adult learning principles, using formal and informal feedback as well as practice standards, policies, and improvement data to revise content. Conducts educational programs based on formal and informal needs assessments of target audience, collaborates with others to utilize appropriate evaluation methodologies, and plans activities to avoid redundancy.

Responds to requests, resolves conflicts and problems through persuasive and constructive discussion, and demonstrates a positive and helpful attitude. Behaves in an open, non‑threatening environment that encourages risk‑taking, openness, trust, and facilitates change in the implementation of new ideas and programs, sharing decision making with others.

Required Education and Experience
BSN; 3 years of related experience. Registered Nurse (RN) with an active Kentucky or multistate license in good standing. AHA BLS valid for 6 months after hire date. Must be able to lift 25 pounds.

Required Skills & Knowledge

Communication, clinical leadership, and collaborative skills are essential.

Basic computer navigation skills required.

Knowledge of budget management important.

Preferred Education and Experience

Certified Lactation Consultant or similar certification.

RNC‑OB or other advanced nursing certification.

BSN with 24 months of experience within the last five years in obstetrical services.

Work Location
Chandler Birthing Center and OB Clinics.

Schedule
Flexible – mostly days with some evenings. Day shift with some evening and weekend class times, per departmental needs.

License
Registered Nurse (RN) with an active Kentucky or multistate license in good standing. AHA BLS valid for 6 months after hire date.

Physical Requirements
Must be able to lift 25 pounds.
