Ylvisaker Hall Director

SUMMARY
This is a live-in position that is responsible for coordinating the general housing operations for Ylvisaker Hall. This includes supervising the student staff, acting as the building conduct coordinator, participating as part of the on-call team, and creating a comprehensive living-learning program for first-year students that reside in Ylvisaker Hall. Starting Salary: $30,650 plus free housing.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES and RESPONSIBILITIES

Administer housing operations including check in, check out, room changes, facilities usage, occupancy management, service center operations, and key inventory.

Interview, select, train, supervise and evaluate Ylvisaker resident assistants.

Maintain daily office hours that encourage open communication with residents and staff.

Develop relationships with residents to aid in the holistic development of the individual student.

Coordinate student learning, community development, and personal development activities within the residence halls revolving around the wellness model.

Serve as a connector between residents and campus resources, helping students navigate academic, wellness, and social support systems.

Attend and actively participate in community experiences hosted within the residence halls to foster visibility and approachability among residents.

Collaborate with campus partners such as First Year Experience, Student Activities, Student Life, Athletics, Campus Programming, Greek Life, Wellness, and other offices as warranted to support student development through shared initiatives.

Maintain accurate housing records and files.

Assess the residence hall environment to determine its impact on student experience including the residence life environmental survey and staff evaluations.

Enforce college and department policies within the residence halls.

Serve as a conduct officer; ensuring that the discipline process is fair and efficiently administered.

Serve as the on-call contact for hall emergencies; weekend leaves (up to two per month) and overnight absences require prior approval from the Director of Residence Life.

Monitor common spaces within the hall and work closely with custodial and facilities personnel to maintain a clean and safe housing environment.

Participate in residence life staff and student life staff meetings, staff development sessions, and committees.

Administer the hall budget by preparing and carefully recording all expenditures.

Maintain a consistent presence across campus by engaging in campus-wide events, student programs, and college traditions to build rapport and trust with students.

Assist with other Residence Life Office and Student Life Office duties as assigned.

Two Assistant Hall Directors and Nine Resident Assistants

EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE and SKILLS

Education: Bachelor’s degree required. Master’s degree in college student personnel, counseling, or higher education preferred.

Experience: Previous residence life experience strongly preferred.

Ability to cultivate and develop inclusive and equitable working relationships with students, faculty, staff, alumni, parents, and friends of the college.

Other Requirements: An appreciation for the distinctive mission of residential, church-affiliated, liberal arts colleges; strong commitment to the educational potential of the residence halls; good verbal, written communications, and organizational skills; the ability to establish relationships with individuals from a variety of backgrounds and viewpoints; and a willingness to live and work in the residence halls and assume 24‑hour on-call responsibilities.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS and WORK ENVIRONMENT

Physical Skills Required: Sedentary work: involves sitting most of the time, but may also involve frequently walking or standing; includes exerting up to 10 pounds of force with occasionally and/or the ability to lift, carry, push, or pull or otherwise move objects with a negligible amount of force.

Atmosphere/Environment: Pleasant, smoke free, air conditioned in the summer and comfortably warm in winter.
