Harper Harrison, San Diego, CA, United States
Vice President of Acquisitions
San Diego County, CA. Hybrid
We are partnered with a privately held real estate investment platform seeking a Vice President of Acquisitions to help lead the next phase of the firm’s growth. Based in San Diego, this individual will play a key role in sourcing, underwriting, structuring, and executing Multifamily investments, while also serving as a strategic partner to ownership on broader business initiatives.
This is a high-impact opportunity for an experienced acquisitions professional who combines strong deal instincts with investor credibility, market judgment, and the leadership capability to grow into a broader senior executive role over time. The ideal candidate will bring deep multifamily acquisitions experience, exposure to capital raising or equity relationships, and the ability to operate as a true partner to the founder as the platform continues to evolve.
Position Overview
The Vice President of Acquisitions will lead multifamily acquisition activity across target markets, with responsibility for sourcing opportunities, evaluating investments, managing transaction execution, and helping strengthen the firm’s external relationships with investors, brokers, and capital partners.
Beyond transactions, this person will be expected to contribute at a strategic level. Someone capable of helping day-to-day leadership responsibilities over time, while allowing the founder to stay focused on higher-level dealmaking, growth, and vision. As such, this role offers a credible path toward a broader leadership seat, potentially evolving into CIO.
Key Responsibilities
Lead the sourcing, underwriting, negotiation, and execution of multifamily acquisition opportunities across the firm’s target markets
Develop and maintain strong relationships with owners, brokers, lenders, capital partners, and other market participants to drive proprietary and off-market deal flow
Evaluate investment opportunities with a strong lens on risk-adjusted returns, business plan viability, capital structure, and market fundamentals
Partner closely with ownership on acquisitions strategy, pipeline development, and portfolio growth priorities
Assist in capital markets and investor-facing activity, including equity discussions, relationship management, fundraising support, and presenting investment opportunities to capital partners
Oversee due diligence processes from LOI through closing, coordinating with internal teams and external advisors across legal, debt, tax, asset management, and operations
Work cross-functionally with asset management and operations teams to ensure business plans are executable and aligned with investment assumptions
Help build a more scalable acquisitions infrastructure, including pipeline tracking, investment memos, decision-making frameworks, reporting, and internal processes
Serve as a senior representative of the business internally and externally, with the maturity and credibility to contribute beyond pure acquisitions execution
Over time, take on broader leadership responsibility as the firm continues to grow and institutionalize
Candidate Profile
Significant experience in multifamily acquisitions within an owner-operator, investment platform, REIT, private equity real estate firm, or similar environment
Proven track record closing multifamily transactions and driving deal flow in a competitive market environment
Strong understanding of underwriting, valuations, capital structures, debt, joint venture dynamics, and value-add investment strategy
Experience interfacing with equity partners, investors, and capital sources. Exposure to fundraising or capital raising is highly attractive
Ability to operate both strategically and tactically. Someone who can think like a principal, but still execute at the deal level
Leadership capability to grow into a broader senior executive position over time
Excellent market judgment, communication skills, and commercial instincts
Bachelor’s degree required. Advanced degree is a plus
Ideal Background
Multifamily acquisitions leadership experience is essential
Experience across multiple markets is attractive, rather than candidates whose backgrounds are limited to one highly specific geography
Candidates with both acquisitions and capital relationships will be particularly compelling
The client is most interested in candidates who can ultimately grow into a broader business leadership capacity, rather than someone who wants to remain purely in a narrow acquisitions lane
