BIW Design Engineer
Job Summary:
Strong technical understanding of automotive Body-in-White systems, including design, development, and release processes.
Understanding of automotive vehicle systems and their packaging requirements
Developing part designs from master sections and design surfaces for Body Structure components.
Relevant experience and understanding of component manufacturing processes like sheet metal forming, roll forming, casting, and modern joining technologies.
Understanding of manufacturing feasibility/ design for manufacturing & assembly
Experience in managing engineering releases and change management for complex projects, including BOM management and related PLM activities.
Knowledge of applying various types of materials (steel, advanced high-strength steel, aluminum, adhesives/sealers)
Responsible to lead the design and development of weight efficient BIW structural designs to deliver the highest level of performance in NVH, durability, and crash performance from a blank page through to production.
Create and develop designs that are optimized for performance, weight, durability, and cost.
Develop a testing plan to prove out design concepts and conduct physical testing to confirm the design meets performance targets.
Vehicle launch experience
Education/Other:
Bachelor/Master’s degree in engineering from an accredited university
Must be authorized to work in North America.
Ability to work and travel domestically/internationally.
Proficient in CATIA V5.
Knowledge of Team Center is a plus.
Good written and verbal communication skills
Proficient in Microsoft Office applications
