Business Development Manager

The Business Development Manager drives new domestic and international customer growth while supporting and expanding existing accounts. This role identifies client needs, designs customized transportation and logistics solutions, and delivers high-level service throughout the customer lifecycle. The manager owns a defined sales territory and is accountable for achieving revenue targets through strategic prospecting, relationship development, and solution-based selling across transportation, warehousing, and distribution services.

This role shapes growth initiatives, strengthens long-term partnerships, and supports evolving service offerings. Success requires strong communication skills, a proactive mindset, and a consistent commitment to results.

Key Responsibilities

Plan and execute weekly sales outreach activities

Build and manage a qualified prospect pipeline within an assigned territory

Identify and pursue new business opportunities through outbound prospecting and cold calling

Maintain and grow existing customer relationships

Support profitability initiatives through pricing awareness and account strategy

Assist with the preparation and response to Requests for Proposal (RFPs)

Develop and document customer‑specific Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs)

Track, follow up, and manage all inbound and outbound sales leads

Participate in pricing reviews and margin analysis

Prepare and deliver sales presentations to prospective and existing clients

Collaborate with internal teams during sales meetings and strategy sessions

Apply industry knowledge to strengthen customer relationships and expand account penetration

Partner with leadership to support market and territory growth strategies

Negotiate and coordinate tailored logistics solutions for customers

Respond to customer inquiries related to rates, service options, and capabilities

Required Skills & Qualifications

Proficiency with business operating systems and standard software tools

Strong verbal and written communication skills

Advanced working knowledge of Microsoft Office applications

Strong organizational, time‑management, and leadership abilities

Ability to work independently or collaboratively in a team environment

Professional, responsive, and customer‑focused communication style

Open to feedback and contributes positively to team culture

Willingness to support special projects and additional responsibilities as needed

Self‑driven, goal‑oriented, and motivated to exceed objectives

Ability to report results clearly to leadership in a fast‑paced environment

Maintains confidentiality of sensitive information

Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree

Minimum of 2 years of professional sales experience or freight forwarding experience with a hunter mentality

Freight forwarding services experience preferred; prior experience within transportation, third‑party logistics, or related services strongly preferred

Background selling FTL, LTL, or integrated logistics solutions preferred
