The Research Analyst role is a key position on Burney’s Investment Team , contributing to our research, technology, and portfolio management efforts. You’ll work directly with our Chief Investment Officer , portfolio managers, and advisors to enhance data infrastructure, test investment strategies, and communicate research findings across the firm.

We’re looking for an analyst who is curious, analytical, and eager to learn , with a genuine interest in finance and a strong desire to build expertise and pursue a long-term career in investment analysis and financial markets . Candidates from finance, economics, data science, or engineering backgrounds are all encouraged to apply.

Core Responsibilities

Manage, clean, and maintain investment and market data across internal and third-party systems

Develop integrations between databases, reporting tools, and research platforms

Produce analytical reports on performance, signal effectiveness, and strategy results

Research, test, and document investment ideas and factor-based strategies

Support portfolio managers and advisors in understanding Burney’s proprietary rating systems and portfolio tools

Evaluate and implement new technologies including AI tools, optimizers, and portfolio management systems

Participate in manager meetings across asset classes such as Fixed Income, Private Credit, Alternatives, and International equities

Present research findings at company-wide meetings and investment discussions

What We’re Looking For

Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Economics, Engineering, Data Analytics , or related field

2+ years of analytical, research, or investment experience

Strong quantitative, communication, and presentation skills

Clean U4 and commitment to high ethical and compliance standards

Preferred Qualifications

CFA charterholder or currently pursuing the CFA designation

Experience as an Investment Analyst or in a quantitative research capacity within an RIA or asset management firm

Technical Skills

Experience with Python , SQL , and Excel

Familiarity with Orion , Clarifi , and S&P Capital IQ

Knowledge of Goldman Sachs Marquee , Adobe Acrobat , and Microsoft Office Suite

Annual Bonus: 15–20% of base, tied to company profitability

Retirement: 15% SEP contribution by the company

Education Support: Full reimbursement for approved professional certifications and designations — including CFA exam fees, coursework, and study materials

Vacation: Unlimited Paid Time Off — required to take at least two weeks per year

Schedule: Hybrid — 4 days onsite, 1 day remote (Reston, VA)

Travel: Less than 15%
