Deep South Crane & Rigging is seeking a Civil Structural Engineer with a Professional Engineering (PE) license to join our VersaCrane design team in Baton Rouge, LA. This position is ideal for a seasoned engineer who excels in guiding innovative design, driving technical excellence, and mentoring engineering staff. You will take ownership of structural design projects from concept through fabrication and testing—playing a pivotal role in the next generation of proprietary heavy-lift equipment.
Our corporate office is in Baton Rouge, LA with other offices located in Lake Charles, LA, Luling, LA, Beaumont, TX, Houston, TX, and Ashland, KY. This position will be located in Baton Rouge, LA. Interested? APPLY NOW !
PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES: Lead structural design and engineering efforts for heavy-lift equipment and attachments
Guide junior engineers and review technical work for accuracy and compliance
Develop 3D models and fabrication drawings using CAD tools
Oversee structural analysis, design validation, and field performance evaluations
Coordinate closely with fabrication, project management, and field operations teams
Ensure designs comply with applicable ASME, SAE, and AISC standards
Drive innovation in structural solutions that enhance performance and cost efficiency
Represent the engineering team in cross-departmental planning and execution meetings
Support the continuous improvement of internal engineering processes and tools
QUALIFICATIONS: Bachelor’s degree in Civil or Structural Engineering
Professional Engineering (PE) License in good standing
5+ years of progressive structural engineering experience, preferably in heavy equipment or crane design
Proficiency in AutoCAD and Microsoft Office
Experience with Autodesk Inventor or other 3D CAD software – preferred
Strong working knowledge of ASME, AISC, and SAE design codes
Highly motivated, detail-oriented, and team-focused
