Qualifications
Minimum Qualifications: An ALA-accredited Master’s in Library and Information Science or relevant terminal degree.
Position Summary
Reporting to the Director of Collections, the Acquisitions Librarian leads the Libraries’ acquisitions strategy for purchased and licensed content. This role streamlines resource procurement processes, assists with the collections budget, and supports collection development. The Acquisitions Librarian fosters vendor relationships, addresses order and payment issues, and collaborates across departments. The role includes staff leadership, including hiring, training, and performance management of approximately 3 staff, and contributes to library-wide planning, governance, and professional development. UGA librarians are non-tenured faculty with an annual professional development allotment of $2,000, and a comprehensive benefits program is offered.

Relevant / Preferred Education, Experience, Licensure, and/or Certification
- Two or more years of experience leading, supervising, or mentoring others.
- Two or more years of experience with the acquisition of library materials
Preferred Knowledge, Skills, Abilities and/or Competencies
- Excellent analytical and communication skills
- Understanding of Integrated Library Management Systems, such as ExLibris Alma
- Ability to supervise, mentor, and support professional growth among library staff
- Familiarity with data/metadata formats and standards used in libraries, such as COUNTER or MARC
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite, especially Excel and Power BI
- Ability to navigate copyright, fair use, and rights management issues
- Understanding of trends in open access to scholarly materials and publishing services
- Excellent project management skills
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively
- Strong attention to detail

Duties / Responsibilities
- Lead acquisitions activities, overseeing procurement of materials in print and digital formats.
- Design and implement workflows using current technologies and standards; stay current with acquisitions trends.
- Support collections budget management by maintaining acquisitions data and informing collection development decisions.
- Hire, train, and evaluate staff; set performance goals aligned with Library objectives.
- Collaborate with vendors and publishers to negotiate terms; resolve order, receiving, and payment issues.
- Work with various library departments and special collections; engage in library-wide planning and governance.
- Pursue research and professional development; participate in professional organizations.
