
Engineer-in-Training/Designer – Roadway Design

We are hiring an Engineer‑in‑Training/Designer for our Roadway Design team. The role focuses on developing design plans, technical specifications, cost estimates, and providing guidance to junior staff. It also includes project budgeting, task delegation, client and sub‑consultant coordination, and basic knowledge of survey data collection, land rights, and regulatory permitting.
WHAT YOU WILL DO:
The successful candidate will:
Develop design plans, technical specifications, and cost estimates for public infrastructure roadway projects.
Provide support and guidance for junior staff.
Manage client and sub‑consultant relationships and coordination.
Track project budgets and delegate work tasks.
Apply basic survey data, land rights, and regulatory permitting knowledge.
DESIRED SKILLS AND EXPERIENCE:
Bachelor’s Degree – Civil Engineering
Relevant internship or 1‑4 years’ experience of progressive responsibility in Civil Engineering. Recent grads considered.
EIT preferred.
Experience with AutoCAD and AutoTurn preferred.
Experience with MassDOT standards and deliverables a plus.
Ability to work in a team environment as an individual contributor.
Organized and able to prioritize tasks and manage time efficiently across multiple projects and deliverables.
Strong written and verbal communication skills.
Ability to utilize critical thinking, judgment, and experience to define, analyze, and resolve issues.

Salary range: $76,000–$92,000
The salary range displayed is a good‑faith estimate of the base pay for this position. The salary offered to the successful candidate will be determined based on factors such as experience, skills, education, and market conditions. The salary range does not include additional forms of compensation such as bonuses or benefits, which may be part of the total compensation package.
