Library Associate – Children’s Library
The Palo Alto City Library is hiring a Library Associate for the Children’s Library. Working with the supervising librarian, this position provides lead operational and customer service duties, coordinates with circulation and daily operations staff, and supports high-quality experiences for library users.

Responsibilities

Perform circulation tasks: check materials out and in, manage borrower files, use the automated system, accept payments, process cash receipts, and resolve patron complaints.

Provide reader’s advisory service and basic reference assistance.

Recommend and maintain the collection, selecting and deselecting materials in the assigned area.

Prepare and display marketing presentations of library materials.

Shelf library materials and maintain the general order and appearance of the library.

Provide direct daily guidance to other staff, allocating assignments and scheduling.

Troubleshoot minor equipment problems, report major problems, and ensure equipment functionality.

Monitor the condition of the physical facility and report issues.

Use library technology to provide patron services, monitor usage statistics, and develop information for supervisors and managers.

Maintain computer files for all library materials, enter bibliographic data, initiate orders and payments, and communicate with vendors.

Create reports, documentation, and correspondence; manage complex recordkeeping systems for library materials and purchases.

Assist with bid proposal documents, acquisition file maintenance, and high-demand title tracking.

Minimum Qualifications

High school graduate with two years of college or equivalent work experience (preferred).

Six semester hours of library science courses relevant to the position.

Two years of relevant experience in a library.
