Virginia's Community College System is hiring: Library Specialist in Richmond

Position Overview

Library Specialist I, part‑time 24 hours per week, no benefits. Minimum hourly pay $18.00, commensurate with experience. Regular evenings and weekends as needed. Reports to the Coordinator of Learning Resources. Provides circulation and basic reference services.

Responsibilities

• Interacting with patrons professionally, effectively, and courteously.


• Using the Integrated Library System (Alma) to perform circulation duties.


• Shelving and maintaining reference, reserve, circulating, and periodical materials accurately.


• Informing patrons of library policies.


• Instructing patrons in the use of the library catalog (Primo).


• Managing patron accounts (debts, etc.).


• Informing patrons about Intercampus and Interlibrary Loan services.


• Assisting with course and patron reserve materials.


• Efficiently logging newspapers and magazines.


• Making RCC ID badges.


• Assisting students with applicable software applications.


• Opening and closing the library when necessary.


• Working a flexible schedule, including evenings and weekends as needed.


• Performing other duties as assigned.


• Occasional travel to other campuses.

Qualifications

• Strong customer service and communication skills.


• Ability to communicate effectively, verbally and in writing.


• Experience with a variety of computer applications and software.


• Eagerness to learn new technologies.


• Accurate, detail‑oriented, and timely performance of duties.


• Ability to work independently as well as in a team.


• Knowledge of alpha‑numeric shelving systems.


• Basic knowledge of library operations and procedures.


• Prior library work experience.

Additional Considerations

Occasional travel to other campus locations may be required.
