Subsidiary Rights Assistant, Penguin Publishing Group (Hybrid)
The Subsidiary Rights Department at Penguin Publishing Group seeks an assistant to support the VP Director and a Senior Director, working collaboratively to assist in the licensing and promotion of books to various outlets, including UK and translation publishers, book clubs, and audio publishers. This position works with adult titles across the Penguin Publishing Group and is an excellent opportunity to gain entry into the field of rights licensing and publishing.
Penguin Publishing Group is the proud publisher of great writers and gifted storytellers, beloved books, and eminent works. Our imprints include Ace, Avery, Berkley, Dutton, Penguin Books, Penguin Press, Plume, Portfolio, Riverhead, Sentinel, Tarcher, The Open Field, Tiny Reparations Books, and Viking.

Our goal is to expand the reach of Penguin titles to the largest possible readership through licensing around the globe.
Our ideal candidate is enthusiastic about the business side of publishing, good at multi-tasking, and extraordinarily organized. We are looking for a detail-oriented, meticulous self-starter who loves books of all types and is invested in the process of bringing them to a wide readership. This person will have strong writing and analytical skills, communicate clearly, be comfortable asking for help when needed, and want to be an active participant on a collaborative team. If you can handle the details of immediately urgent tasks but also remember to stay on top of your own responsibilities and to-do list, you will assume greater responsibilities over time.
Specific responsibilities include:
Assisting senior-level staff and providing general administrative support
Creating deal sheets and monthly deal summaries
Writing submission letters and corresponding with co-agents and licensees
Managing and executing book mailings
Coordinating art, editorial and publicity requests from domestic and foreign publishers
Providing production materials and navigating art clearances to licensees

Maintaining a database of contacts and titles
Please apply if you meet the following minimum requirements:
Genuine interest in subsidiary rights licensing
An avid reader who has a broad reading sensibility
Ability to multitask and prioritize in a deadline-driven environment
Excellent organizational skills
Strong attention to detail
Excellent written and verbal communication skills
Ability to work effectively on a team as well as independently
Proficiency with Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint
The salary for this position is $51,000. All positions are currently eligible for annual profit award or bonus, subject to Company results.
This hybrid position has occasional in-office responsibilities, including but not limited to in-office meetings and ad hoc administrative projects. We will consider candidates who can work from a commutable distance to our offices at 1745 Broadway, which includes the tri-state area (NJ, CT, & PA).
Penguin Random House values the array of talents and perspectives that a diverse workforce brings. All qualified applicants will receive consideration for employment without regard to race, national origin, religion, age, color, sex, sexual orientation, gender identity, disability, or protected veteran status.
