Position Summary The Piping Engineer will be responsible for the engineering, analysis, and technical leadership required to design safe, efficient piping systems for industrial gas and cryogenic facilities. This role supports projects through all phases—from conceptual development and layout through detailed engineering, vendor coordination, and construction support. The Piping Engineer will collaborate closely with piping designers, project engineers, and multidisciplinary teams to deliver high-quality, code-compliant piping system designs.
Responsibilities Develop piping engineering deliverables including specifications, design criteria, material selection, line classes, calculations, and technical reports
Provide engineering oversight and direction to piping designers developing 3D models, orthographic drawings, isometrics, MTOs, and layout details
Lead the development of piping layouts for equipment and systems, ensuring compliance with safety standards, industry codes, and project requirements
Perform or review pipe stress calculations, including support design, thermal expansion considerations, and code compliance
Review and approve vendor drawings for technical accuracy; coordinate corrections and manage submittal cycles as needed
Support proposal efforts by contributing conceptual designs, system layout strategies, and early-stage engineering input
Collaborate with mechanical, process, structural, civil, and electrical teams throughout all project phases
Ensure adherence to established piping and CAD standards for the industrial gases sector
Participate in internal training, best-practice initiatives, and continuous improvement programs
Report to the Design Department Manager while supporting multiple projects simultaneously
Qualifications Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or related engineering field required
Prior experience in piping engineering within industrial gases, petrochemical, or related heavy industrial sectors preferred
Proficiency with 3D design tools such as CADWorx, AutoCAD, or BricsCAD, and ability to collaborate closely with piping designers
Strong understanding of pipe stress, flexibility analysis, and pipe support design
Working knowledge of applicable industry codes such as ASME B31.3, B31.1, and related standards
Experience with cryogenic systems is a strong plus
Excellent communication, analytical, and organizational skills
Competency with Microsoft Office Suite (Outlook, Word, Excel)
Ability to work effectively in a multidisciplinary, team-oriented environment
