Statement of Duties
The employee provides customer service and clerical support to the Department and performs all related duties.

Essential Functions

Provides customer service to the public—interacting in person, via telephone, mail, and email.

Responds to inquiries, conducts research, and provides requested information.

Performs clerical duties such as making copies, filing, screening and directing phone calls, operating office equipment, sorting and distributing mail.

Creates, issues, organizes, and maintains department files.

Prepares and manages correspondence, reports, and related documentation.

Operates a variety of office equipment.

Minimum Qualifications

High school diploma or equivalent.

One to three years of experience in customer service and clerical work.

Knowledge, Abilities, and Skills Required

Working knowledge of computer programs and equipment, including a timekeeping system and Office software (Word, Excel, database management); knowledge of the Internet to support operations.

Ability to interact appropriately with the public, respond to inquiries and requests, and plan and prioritize tasks; ability to access the Internet for information.

Strong attention to detail, timely performance of clerical tasks, and proficient written and oral communication skills.

Physical and Mental Requirements
Little or no physical demands. The work is primarily seated and mental, with occasional stooping, walking, standing, and light lifting. Tasks require typing, word processing, filing, and reading of documents.

The City of Danbury is announcing an Open Competitive Exam for the position of Clerk Typist II. The employee is responsible for providing customer service and clerical support to the Department. Employee is required to perform all similar or related duties.
Supervision Required: Employee works under the general supervision of the Department Head. The employee is familiar with the work routine and uses initiative in carrying out recurring assignments independently with specific instructions. The supervisor provides additional, specific instruction for new, difficult, or unusual assignments, including suggested work methods. The employee is expected to recognize instances that are out of the ordinary and that do not fall within existing instructions; in such cases, the employee is expected to seek advice and further instructions. Reviews and checks of the employee's work are applied to an extent sufficient to keep the supervisor aware of progress, and to ensure that completed work and methods used are technically accurate and that instructions are being followed.
Supervisory Responsibility: Employee is not regularly required to supervise other employees.
Confidentiality: The employee has access to confidential department information, such as employee personnel records.
Accountability: Consequences of errors or poor judgment may include missed deadlines, adverse public relations, and/or monetary loss.
