Security Clearance
Applicant must hold or be able to obtain an active Department of Defense (DoD) SECRET personnel security clearance.
Responsibilities
The Technical Writing Specialist develops, validates, and sustains technical manuals and related technical documentation for small boats and combatant craft. The position authors SGML/XML‑based technical data in compliance with NAVSEA and DoD specifications, manages technical manual repositories, and ensures configuration, maintenance, and logistics data consistency across all published products.
Author and edit technical manuals using Arbortext and SGML/XML environments
Ensure compliance with MIL‑DTL‑24784 series, MIL‑PRF‑32216A, and applicable DIDs
Perform parts research and review engineering drawings and BOMs
Manage TM storage and access within MBPS repositories
Acquire and validate COTS technical manuals for government acceptance
Support NTSP and MPT development and related training documentation 8 years of progressively responsible professional experience in applied systems engineering.
Experience
3–8 years of experience authoring technical manuals for Navy or DoD platforms
Proficiency with Arbortext Editor and SGML/XML authoring environments
Knowledge of MIL‑DTL‑24784 series, MIL‑PRF‑32216A, and TM DIDs
Familiarity with MBPS and Navy digital technical data repositories
Ability to interpret engineering drawings, BOMs, and maintenance documentation
Strong technical writing, editing, and document control skills
Education Requirements
Bachelor’s degree in Technical Writing, Engineering, Logistics, or related field or relevant direct military experience in lieu of degree
