Overview Location: Salt Lake City Area (Project Sites Throughout Utah) — Projects are primarily located throughout the Greater Salt Lake City area. Travel between job sites may be required.
Pay: Starting at $60,000 to DOE

We are a 100% employee-owned, family-run heavy civil construction company specializing in underground utilities, earthwork, roadway construction, and site development. Our team supports growing communities across Arizona and Utah.
We are seeking a highly motivated and experienced Preconstruction Design & Takeoff Technician to support our estimating and preconstruction workflows. This role plays a critical part in ensuring bid accuracy, cost forecasting, and risk management across earthwork, underground utilities, paving, structures, and site improvements.
Position Overview The Preconstruction Design & Takeoff Technician is an entry-level role (0–3 years of experience) designed for recent graduates or early-career professionals interested in estimating, design, and preconstruction.
In this role, you’ll work closely with experienced estimators and project teams to learn how to analyze construction plans, perform quantity takeoffs, and support the bidding process on real-world projects. You’ll gain exposure to earthwork, underground utilities, grading, and site development while building technical and analytical skills that are critical for long-term success in construction.
This is a great opportunity for someone who is detail-oriented, enjoys problem-solving, and wants to grow into roles such as Estimator, Project Engineer, or Preconstruction Manager.
Responsibilities Perform manual and electronic takeoffs for heavy civil construction components, including earthwork and grading.
Assist in preparing detailed estimates for bids and proposals.
Collaborate with the estimating team to review plans and identify potential challenges.
Detect discrepancies, ambiguities, or missing information in project documents and communicate them to relevant parties.
Maintain accurate records of all takeoffs and support documentation.
Input takeoff data accurately into project management and estimation systems.
Contribute to the creation of detailed 3D models to support project planning and estimation.
Qualifications 0–3 years of experience in construction, estimating, takeoffs, or a related field (internship experience acceptable)
Ability to work independently and as part of a team
Strong communication and organizational skills
Proficiency in mathematical calculations and numerical analysis
Exceptional attention to detail
Strong computer aptitude; experience with multiple software platforms
Experience in heavy civil takeoffs and 3D design preferred but not required
Proficient in AutoCAD, Agtek, Trimble Business Center, and Microsoft Office Suite (required)
