Division: Behavioral Health and Developmental Disabilities Division, Montana Department of Public Health and Human Services (DPHHS)

Position Overview
This position conducts research and analysis to support management decisions in establishing rules, policies, program practices, and quality monitoring for Medicaid programs. The analyst identifies ongoing data research needs, initiates studies and evaluations, performs statistical analysis of Medicaid claims, surveillance information, and health indicators, evaluates quality and efficiency of surveillance systems, develops databases, and coordinates special surveillance and evaluation procedures.

Key Responsibilities

Conduct research and analyze data for Medicaid program management.

Perform statistical analysis of Medicaid claims, surveillance data, health and treatment indicators, risk and protective factors.

Report findings and support operations decision‑making.

Evaluate quality and efficiency of surveillance systems.

Develop new databases and systems for data collection.

Design, coordinate, and manage special surveillance/evaluation procedures where no existing data is available.

Qualifications

Knowledge of applied mathematics, economics, including calculus, statistics, econometrics.

Ability to translate data and statistical information into laymen’s terms for multiple audiences.

Logic and reasoning to evaluate alternative solutions.

Ability to develop work plans and complete projects.

Knowledge of surveillance concepts and theories.

Bachelor’s degree in public health, social science, economics, mathematics, statistics, finance, or related field.

Three years of job‑related experience such as mathematical modeling and predictive analysis in health insurance, hospital/healthcare, consulting, governmental or similar business setting.

Advanced level experience in MS Excel.

Preference for experience with large dataset analysis software (R, SAS, SQL).

Experience in Medicaid claims systems, behavioral health epidemiology, statistics, or research analysis preferred.

Other combinations of directly related education and experience may be considered on a case‑by‑case basis.

Compensation and Location
Salary: $37.55 per hour. Telework Eligibility: Telework eligible (full‑time telework not available, must be supervisor approved). Primary Location: Helena (other locations: Billings, Missoula, Miles City, Kalispell, Glasgow, Butte, Bozeman, Great Falls).
