Position Overview
Mechanical Engineer – Full time permanent position at Domtar location in Sanford, Florida, United States.
Essential Functions
Preventive and predictive maintenance: develop and implement maintenance schedules to maximize equipment uptime and minimize breakdowns.
Troubleshooting and repair: diagnose and resolve mechanical, hydraulic, and pneumatic issues.
Installation and upgrades: recommend and implement upgrades or modifications to improve equipment performance and reliability.
Safety and compliance: ensure all maintenance activities comply with health, safety, environmental regulations including OSHA and EPA standards.
Record‑keeping: maintain detailed and accurate records of maintenance activities using CMMS.
Collaboration: work with production, operations and management teams to coordinate maintenance schedules and support projects.
Leadership: lead the mechanical maintenance crew in the absence of the supervisor and oversee contractors.
Planning: develop job planning and project planning skills to assist with outage planning.
Skills & Competencies
Proven analytical and problem-solving skills.
Deep understanding of mechanical, hydraulic, and pneumatic systems.
Ability to work in challenging environments.
Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
Strong attention to detail and organizational skills.
Excellent computer skills with SAP, MS Office, scheduling software; AutoCAD is an asset.
Required Qualifications & Experience
Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or related field.
Preferred 2‑6 years of experience working in an industrial mill as a Mechanical/Maintenance Engineer.
Experience on projects with operating company or engineering firm is an asset.
Experience in construction management and/or maintenance in industrial/process plant environment.
Ability to work with all levels of the organization, including management committee and senior leaders.
