Role Description
This is a full-time, on-site role located in Frederick, MD for a Project Accountant. The Project Accountant will be responsible for managing the financial aspects of construction projects from setup through closeout. This role ensures accurate project cost tracking, billing, forecasting, and accounting entries while supporting project managers with timely and reliable project specific information. This will be a key role in maintaining cost controls, ensuring contract compliance, and supporting overall project profitability.

Job Duties & Responsibilities

Setup and maintain project budgets, cost codes, and job cost structures

Monitor project costs including labor, materials, subcontractor expenses, and overhead allocations

Track committed costs and forecast final project costs

Analyze cost variances and provide feedback to Project Managers

Ensure billing complies with contract terms and schedule of values

Coordinate with Project Managers to resolve billing discrepancies

Prepare monthly project cost reports and job profitability analyses

Provide financial updates to Project Managers and leadership

Support month-end and year-end close related to project accounting

Ensure compliance with contract requirements, internal controls, and any applicable company policies

Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree (or equivalent experience) in Accounting, Finance, or a related field

3-5 years of accounting experience, preferably in construction or project-based environments

Experience with job costing and construction billing required

Strong understanding of construction accounting principles

Proficiency in accounting software (Sage, Procore, or similar)

Strong analytical and problem-solving skills

Excellent attention to detail and ability to meet deadlines

Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously and to work collaboratively with others

Excellent written and verbal communication skills
