Overview
We are seeking a highly experienced Assistant Controller to oversee accounting operations, ensure compliance with statutory accounting requirements, and support financial reporting and process improvements. This role will work closely with leadership and manage a small accounting team while driving efficiency and automation across the function.
Key Responsibilities
Oversee monthly, quarterly, and annual close processes
Prepare and review financial statements and statutory filings
Manage general ledger, journal entries, and account reconciliations
Oversee reinsurance accounting, billing, and reporting
Coordinate investment accounting and review outsourced activities
Support audit processes and respond to audit requests
Prepare board reporting materials and financial presentations
Assist with budgeting, forecasting, and variance analysis
Identify process improvements and implement automation/SOPs
Ensure strong internal controls and compliance with regulations
Lead, mentor, and develop accounting staff
Qualifications
8+ years of accounting/finance experience
Required: Insurance industry experience
Strong background in statutory accounting, reinsurance, and investment accounting
Advanced general ledger and financial reporting experience
Experience with ERP systems
Familiarity with accounting tools and systems
Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field
Strong analytical, leadership, and communication skills
