Job Description
The Chemical Operator plays a key role in safely operating production equipment, compounding and mixing chemical batches, and supporting high-quality manufacturing processes. This position follows strict, detailed instructions and established procedures to ensure safe systems of work, regulatory compliance, and consistent product quality. The role suits an experienced practitioner who can work with guidance but without constant supervision, contributing to efficient production while supporting continuous improvement and cross-training within the team.
Responsibilities
+ Operate basic production equipment and carry out routine manufacturing tasks in a chemical environment, following strict, detailed instructions at all times.
+ Perform chemical mixing, compounding, blending, and batch-making activities in line with established formulas, parameters, and process specifications.
+ Work within defined process settings and parameters to ensure consistent product quality and efficient production throughput.
+ Support the installation of equipment and appliances by preparing work areas, providing assistance, and following detailed installation instructions.
+ Assist with the maintenance and repair of equipment and appliances by carrying out preparations and providing hands-on support under guidance.
+ Follow and apply safe systems of work, including the correct use of personal protective equipment, to safeguard personal safety, co-workers, and the environment.
+ Support the quality function by working within strict quality standards and Good Manufacturing Practice (GMP) guidelines where applicable.
+ Identify, assess, prioritize, and help manage risks in the production process at an elementary level under supervision, escalating issues when required.
+ Review and create clear and effective basic reports under supervision to document production activities, deviations, and quality-related information.
+ Work with guidance to understand, interpret, and follow policies and procedures, ensuring alignment with organizational strategies and objectives.
+ Plan, organize, and prioritize daily activities with guidance to meet production and business objectives efficiently.
+ Contribute to a culture of learning and development by supporting and encouraging colleagues to grow their skills and knowledge.
+ Ensure full compliance with applicable rules, regulations, and internal procedures in day-to-day operations.
+ Collaborate with team members and supervisors using clear, effective verbal communication to coordinate tasks, report issues, and implement plans.
Essential Skills
+ Experience operating basic production or processing equipment in a chemical or manufacturing environment.
+ Hands-on experience with chemical mixing, compounding, blending, and batch-making processes.
+ Good Manufacturing Practice (GMP) experience in a chemical, pharmaceutical, or food and beverage manufacturing setting.
+ Ability to follow strict, detailed written and verbal instructions accurately and consistently.
+ Capability to work with guidance but without constant supervision, taking responsibility for routine tasks.
+ Understanding of safe systems of work and the correct use of personal protective equipment.
+ Basic ability to identify and help manage risks in a production process under supervision.
+ Elementary report writing skills to review and create clear, concise production and quality reports.
+ Ability to work within defined process parameters and quality standards.
+ Secondary or intermediate education level (such as completion of general secondary education or equivalent).
Additional Skills & Qualifications
+ Experience in chemical manufacturing, chemical operations, or related process industries.
+ Experience in pharmaceutical, food and beverage, or other GMP-focused manufacturing environments.
+ Familiarity with supporting equipment installation, maintenance, and repair activities under guidance.
+ Ability to interpret and work within organizational policies, procedures, and quality systems.
+ Strong attention to detail and commitment to safety and compliance.
+ Willingness to cross-train in different areas of production and take on new responsibilities.
+ Interest in continuous learning and professional development within a stable, long-term manufacturing environment.
Work Environment
This role is based in a stable, long-established manufacturing facility with a strong emphasis on safety, quality, and long-term employment. The environment involves working in a chemical production setting that follows strict procedures, quality standards, and Good Manufacturing Practice (GMP) where applicable. The position operates on a quarterly swing shift schedule, rotating approximately three months on days and three months on an alternate shift pattern, requiring flexibility and adaptability to changing hours. Team members work with production equipment, mixing and compounding systems, and related manufacturing tools while using appropriate personal protective equipment as required by site safety rules. This is a Contract position based out of Birmingham, AL.
Pay and Benefits
The pay range for this position is $25.00 - $25.00/hr.
