Food Quality Control Technician

Job Description
The Food Quality Control Technician supports the quality assurance program in a large food production and warehouse environment. This role focuses on product evaluation, food safety, and regulatory compliance while working closely with production teams to maintain and improve quality standards. The technician works on the first shift, Monday through Friday, and plays a key role in preparing for audits and ensuring that all products meet established specifications and procedures.

Responsibilities

Perform daily product evaluations to verify that finished goods meet established quality and safety specifications.

Conduct risk assessments on products and processes to identify potential quality or food safety issues.

Execute quality assurance checks for shipping and receiving, including inspection and verification of incoming materials and outgoing products.

Calibrate laboratory and production equipment as required to ensure accurate measurements and testing results.

Perform pH, Brix, and color assessments on products and ingredients, accurately documenting all test results.

Apply and uphold HACCP principles, monitor Critical Control Points (CCPs), and document findings according to established procedures.

Follow and enforce Good Manufacturing Practices (GMPs) throughout the production and warehouse areas.

Assist with internal and external audits, including preparation of documentation and support for FDA and other regulatory audits.

Support and maintain SQF certification requirements by following established quality and food safety programs.

Review and help adjust Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) to reflect current practices and continuous improvement initiatives.

Complete quality control inspections and quality checks at various stages of the production process.

Accurately document all quality control activities, test results, deviations, and corrective actions in accordance with company procedures.

Collaborate with production, warehouse, and quality teams to resolve quality issues and improve processes.

Communicate effectively with team members and leadership regarding quality concerns, trends, and recommendations.

Coach and teach team members on proper SOP standards and quality expectations on the production floor.

Support food safety initiatives and ensure that all activities align with food safety policies and regulations.

Assist in maintaining a clean, organized, and compliant lab and production environment.

Manage multiple tasks and priorities in a fast‑paced production setting while meeting deadlines.

Demonstrate a visible presence on the production floor to monitor compliance and support team members.

Essential Skills

Hands‑on experience in quality control or quality assurance within a food production or similar environment.

Working knowledge of Good Manufacturing Practices (GMPs).

Experience with Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), including following and supporting updates to procedures.

Understanding and practical application of HACCP principles.

Experience monitoring and documenting Critical Control Points (CCPs).

Knowledge of food safety practices and regulations relevant to food production.

Experience with quality control inspection and documentation processes.

Ability to perform and interpret pH, Brix, and color assessments.

Laboratory knowledge and experience in a food or related laboratory setting.

Familiarity with SQF certification requirements and related documentation.

Ability to assist with and support FDA audit preparation.

Strong verbal and written communication skills to interact effectively with individuals and teams.

Ability to multitask and manage several responsibilities simultaneously in a production environment.

Ability to work effectively in groups and cross‑functional teams.

Capability to coach and teach others on proper SOP standards while maintaining professionalism.

Self‑starter mindset with a strong desire to learn and grow within the organization.

Additional Skills & Qualifications

Interest in a long‑term role with the ability to commit at least 2–3 years, with a preference for 5+ years of growth in the position.

Demonstrated ability to maintain a strong and positive presence on the production floor.

Comfort approaching individuals at all levels to provide guidance and feedback on quality and SOP adherence.

Motivation to take initiative, solve problems, and contribute to continuous improvement in quality and food safety.

Personality and interpersonal skills that support collaboration, coaching, and constructive communication.

Work Environment
The role is based in a large production and warehouse facility focused on food manufacturing. The technician works on a first‑shift schedule from Monday through Friday, typically from 6:00 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. The environment includes production lines, laboratory testing areas, and shipping and receiving operations. Work involves regular movement through production and warehouse spaces, interaction with cross‑functional teams, and use of laboratory equipment for pH, Brix, and color assessments, as well as other quality testing tools. The setting is fast paced and requires adherence to food safety practices, Good Manufacturing Practices, and established SOPs at all times, with appropriate attire and protective gear consistent with a food production and lab environment.

Job Type & Location
Contract to Hire position based out of OXNARD, CA.

Pay And Benefits
The pay range for this position is $20.00 - $25.00/hr.
