Job Description
Responsible for performing cleaning tasks in accordance with established standards and procedures.
Responsibilities
Interior Cleaning
Perform dusting, sweeping, and mopping floors
Clean restrooms and bathrooms, replenish supplies
Clean laundry rooms, offices, public areas, vents, common spaces, high and low dusting, upholstery, recreation rooms, storage areas, and empty sanitary receptacles
Remove and dispose of interior landfill, recycling, and paper towel waste from containers throughout the facilities
Respond to unanticipated cleaning needs such as spills, graffiti, and other incidents
Report maintenance, custodial or general issues to supervisor and complete GatorWorks requests
Ensure compliance with safety standards, OSHA, ADA and other relevant regulations at all times
Operate commercial or residential laundry equipment to clean and fold cloths needed for the shift
Assist with heavy cleaning during peak periods: stripping, applying floor finish to floor surfaces, and removal of furniture
Perform occasional room set-up and/or breakdown, including moving furniture for events
Exterior Cleaning
Perform sweeping, shampooing carpet, pressure washing, window washing, operating electrically/battery powered cleaning equipment such as blowers and automatic burnishers
Remove landfill and recycling waste from exterior of building and from containers positioned around the perimeter of the buildings
Assist in maintaining inventory of cleaning materials, supplies, tools and equipment in closets throughout the facility and clean/organize cleaning cart and storage closets
Other Duties
Perform other duties as assigned, including special cleaning tasks or projects
Salary
$15.25 per hour
Required Qualifications
Completion of ninth grade.
Preferred Experience
Prefer experience working in the custodial industry for a University/college residence hall, large apartment complex, or hotel
Knowledge
Working knowledge of APPA (Association of Physical Plant Administrators) cleaning standards
Working knowledge of industry standards and technology
Demonstrated knowledge in the proper and safe handling of all janitorial chemicals
Familiarity with University of Florida student culture and campus at large
Skills
Demonstrated communication skills (verbal and written) and ability to communicate with various levels of staff
Attention to detail, professionalism, dependability, and timeliness
Customer service and interpersonal skills
Ability
Remains discreet and respects privacy of residents, tenants, and/or guests
Functions effectively in a fast-paced environment with frequent interruptions
Handles multiple projects or tasks simultaneously
Understands, interprets, and applies rules, regulations, policies, and procedures
Works as part of a team in a multi-faceted environment
Physical Requirements
Prolonged periods standing and walking
Lift, push or pull up to 45 pounds at times
Ability to climb stairs
Frequently reach above shoulders
Repeated bending, kneeling, pulling and pushing
Operate mechanical and electrically powered cleaning equipment
Other types of physical exertion necessary for task completion
