Position Summary
Conduct Source Inspection, including in-process, first-article, and final inspection, of mechanical/machined components and parts at the manufacturer against MEC Purchase Order, Drawings, Quality Requirements, and other flow-downs. This professional will use tools and review processes to ensure suppliers are prepared to deliver first-time quality to MEC. Strong communication skills are required to ensure suppliers understand requirements and expectations, prepare trip reports, and present findings. This role requires travel to local suppliers within a 50-mile radius; and approximately 20% overnight.

Responsibilities

Perform and witness independent inspections, validations, and/or verifications of assigned items to ensure compliance with contractual and drawing requirements at the manufacturer

Review supplier ATP, CofC, FAIR reports, and other documentation to ensure compliance with requirements

Complete inspection reports and documentation in accordance with Customer specifications

Notify the supplier of rejections, providing reasons and objective evidence

Interface directly with suppliers

Perform visual and dimensional inspections on manufactured piece parts, assemblies, and/or sub-assemblies

Understand, absorb & interpret engineering drawings, purchase orders & supporting documentation as it relates to manufactured tools

Identify material and specification requirements related to the product, as well as identify unique requirements that may be flowed down through the purchase order text

Travel to various local and nationwide supplier facilities

Skills And Requirements

High School graduate diploma or a General Educational Development (GED) certificate.

Certification in GD&T required and/or 3 years of basic GD&T inspection experience

5 years minimum experience as a QC inspector

2-5 years minimum experience as a Source Inspector.

Experience working in an ISO 9001/AS9100 QMS environment.

Must be able to read and interpret schematics, blueprints, specifications, etc., per ASME Y 14.5 and ASME Y 14.100.

Experience performing First Article Inspection Reports (FAIRs) in accordance with AS9102 standards.

Above average understanding of hardware blueprint reading (notes, features, views, tolerances, etc.) and knowledge of specifications and contractual requirements.

Ability to train others on the proper use of inspection equipment.

Excellent communication skills – both written and verbal

Able to perform basic math skills

Detail-oriented and self-motivated

Able to work with others and be a team player

Must have a good attitude and willingness to learn

Must have a clear understanding of document types that are impacted by Configuration Control Changes; e.g., Drawings & specifications, Procedures, and Work Instructions.

Proficient computer skills (MS Word, Excel, Outlook).

Experience interfacing with all levels of Quality, Supplier Management, and Vendors.

Must be able to speak/read/write English.Must be able to lift up to 35 lbs.

Certifications in relevant American Society for Quality (ASQ) topics or a college degree in Engineering or other technical fields are a plus

Certificates of Completion in Quality Assurance for the professional (i.e., CSUDH Quality courses) are a plus

Certifications in GD&T, Quality Inspection, relevant ASQ areas, CMM certificates, or college degrees in Quality Assurance, Engineering, or other technical fields are a plus.

Bilingual English/Spanish is a plus.

Familiarity with SAP is a plus.

Salary Range
Base Salary Range (Inglewood only): $55,000 to $78,000. Salary is based on skills, experience, and education.

Travel Requirements
Potentially require travel (80%). This role requires travel to local suppliers within a 50-mile radius; and approximately 20% overnight.
