
Senior Accountant

The Senior Accountant will be responsible for overseeing core accounting functions, supporting month-end and quarter-end close, and ensuring the accuracy and integrity of the Company’s financial records. This role will also support operational finance activities including job costing, payroll accounting, sales tax compliance, and accounts receivable review. The ideal candidate is hands-on, detail-oriented, and comfortable operating in a growing, small-to-mid-sized business environment.
Responsibilities
General Accounting & Close
Lead and support monthly and quarterly close processes, including preparation and review of journal entries, account reconciliations, and supporting schedules
Maintain general ledger integrity and ensure compliance with internal accounting policies
Prepare and maintain reconciliation workbooks for balance sheet and key operating accounts
Assist with year-end close and coordination with external CPA firm
Support internal financial reporting and ad hoc accounting analysis
Payroll & Labor Cost Accounting
Record weekly payroll journal entries, including labor allocations to jobs using automated Excel-based workbooks
Reconcile payroll-related balance sheet accounts and ensure proper expense recognition
Coordinate with payroll provider and internal teams to resolve discrepancies
Support job, region, and service-line financial analysis, including margin review and cost tracking
Assist with analysis of operational performance and variance explanations
Partner with operations and leadership to provide accurate and timely financial insights
Accounts Receivable Support
Support accounts receivable review and follow-up alongside the billing/AR specialist
Assist with AR aging analysis, collections support, and cash application review
Perform cash reconciliations and investigate discrepancies
Fixed Assets & Capital Tracking
Maintain the fixed asset register, including tracking of new vehicles and capital additions
Coordinate depreciation schedules and support year-end fixed asset reporting
Tax & Compliance
Prepare and submit sales tax filings across applicable states
Track and manage Louisiana sales tax compliance
Oversee 1099 preparation and reporting
Support compliance with other routine state and local reporting requirements
Benefits & Other Accounting Activities
Record monthly benefits entries related to NEIBP or similar benefit programs
Maintain accurate benefit-related accounting and reconciliations
Assist with process improvements, documentation, and system enhancements
Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance
3+ years of accounting experience, preferably in a small to mid-sized business environment
Strong knowledge of general ledger accounting, reconciliations, and month-end close
Advanced proficiency in Excel (pivot tables, formulas, reconciliation models)
Experience working with QuickBooks or similar accounting systems
Familiarity with job costing or project-based accounting
Experience with sales tax filings and basic tax compliance
Strong attention to detail and ability to manage multiple priorities
